Board of Young Leaders Program Success Story: Nikhitha Shivu





What are you currently doing and what role does Board of Young Leaders Program have in that?

I am pursuing masters in Data Science at the University of Paderborn, Germany. Board of Young Leaders Program has played a very important role in building up my personality. As a part of my master course, I have to research and present selective topics in couple of seminars. In the Board of Young Leaders Program, I was the manager for Bangalore Team had to present team goals and tasks to my teammates which was a regular cycle. This helped me gain a lot of confidence during presentations. I have learnt to present a lot better after the being a part of 
BOYL. Hence I could say that I have improved my speaking skills, including my English language skills. Not only this, I have taken up a project in the course; in which I volunteered to become the project leader. A project leader requires great team management skills, which I undoubtedly gained from BYLP. I first learnt making MOM from BOYL, which I use in every project meeting. 



Which department did you work in and what did you enjoy the most about it?

I worked in the content writing department, Bangalore. Since the first day 
BOYL has kept me excited about the work I was doing. I was allowed choose my favorite genre to write about. I choose Tech. I enjoyed learning about new gadgets, new updates and all the tech related news. By rewriting the content I could remember it better. Apart from content writing I was promoted to manage the Bangalore team, which was even more fun. Interacting with new people, interviewing and then working with them, all of this was fun plus a lot more helpful for me. 




What skills did you pick up at Board of Young Leaders Program that is helping you achieve your goals?

Firstly, content writing. I did a lot more freelancing in this department as it was my passion and 
BOYL gave me an opportunity to practice my skill. Secondly, team building and management skills. 



Did Board of Young Leaders Program help you to develop your personality?

Absolutely. I am a better speaker now. I know how to handle tough situations, manage a group of people and lead them. I volunteer to take up responsibilities which wasn’t the case before 
BOYL and I am confident that I would be able to fulfil the responsibilities. 



Tell us something about the experiential learning during the program?

I was a part of 
BOYL for a year and have gained enormous experience in several fields. Content writing, content editing, team building and management skills, which I proudly include in my CV. 



Any pearls of wisdom for aspiring Board of Young Leaders Program applicants?
