An Insight Into the World of an Instagram Influencer: Dimple Arora

Note: The interview is part of our series on: 'Top Influencers' as part of a build-up to: 'Youth Leadership Conference 10.0'. You can find out more about the conference here.

What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

I belong to a Punjabi family and my eternal love for food has brought me where I am today.  I have always been surrounded with love, pampering and food and hence here I am. This was never planned, I randomly started posting food pictures which I already have had taken for my personal snap chat or just for memories. I never knew this would become such a big platform for me to showcase my personality.

How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

Well, a blogger is someone who writes blogs on their respective platform be it their blogpost, show Instagram, or any other platform whereas an influencer is a person who influences others to do or try something they have experienced. One doesn’t need a platform to influence people. He can influence his friend to buy something he loved. A celebrity can influence people to style up like the way they did. An influencer just needs to exhibit something in such a way that it interests the viewer.

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

Honestly, being an influencer is not an easy task. Nothing comes for free and it takes a lot of time, hard work, planning, elevation and a lot more to get the best. It is definitely financially sustainable for an influencer if and only if they give their best in everything. If you can stand out of the crowd, you can surely make it. It’s your quality content, dedication, and hard work which speaks.

What do you think influences consumer behaviour?

A lot many factors are there which influences the customer's behaviour, your neighbours can influence you, Ranveer Singh can influence you, a random girl using an XYZ mobile phone in a metro can influence you. In today’s day and age, everyone is an influencer, some having a greater impact than that of others. And if you are the one, you win.

Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.

I recently came across this article about Instagram contemplating removing like an option for posts. According to me, this could be a complete flop for influencers. The brands could no more be able to know about the actual state of any influencer. It would be a boon for the so-called influencers who have fake reach on their pages but the genuine ones would surely be in a bad state since their credibility would be negligible.

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

I strongly believe one must be hardworking, sincere and dedicated to whatever they do. If you have the talent and you can display it, no one can stop you. I always try and bring new and creative things for my page. One must not go for quantity but quality. Your work reflects your personality.

I am 25 years old and I belong to Noida. I have pursued engineering in computer science and I am currently doing food blogging as a full time. I also work with a few restaurants in Delhi as their marketing consultant.
