1.Tell us more about your background and journey.

Hello, I am Mohammed Al-selwy. I am a graduate of the National Institute of Administrative Sciences an accounting diploma.

2. How and when did you realize your passion for photography?

I had a phone in 2011, which was of HTC (I don't remember the model exactly). That phone had a camera on its backside. So, I was quite intrigued by that tiny thing in my phone, and so I started to tinker around with it and took my first photograph with it.

Though it was not of a very good quality, but that very concept of capturing the world around me using an electronic device just stunned me and motivated me to take more photos. And then later on, I went ahead to own my first camera - A Canon model D600 in 2012. This was when I realized my passion for photography.

3. What are some tips you would like to share with amateur photographers?

My advice for new or amateur photographers is to constantly learn and develop their skills permanently as photography is a big sea that needs you to dive deep into it and get to know all that is new and trending.

4. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful photographer?

The important skills that each photographer must possess are divided into two types -

  • Personal skills (flexibility - activity - love of knowledge, continuous learning, travel and mobility - patience - dealing with others)
  • Technical skills: mastering the programs of editing and improvement of images and color integration such as the most important adobe programs (Photoshop - Lightroom)

5. What are various opportunities available for aspiring photographers?

There are opportunities for photographers such as multicultural learning opportunities, building international relationships with others by participating in local and international exhibitions and winning photography competitions.

As well as the opportunities to obtain employment contracts with local and regional agencies and work as a photographer free to photograph is a source of income for those who know how to promote their skills using digital networking sites.

6. Which is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book is the collection of photography essentials by Scud Kilby. It it so simply due to the fact that I'm a photographer and simply like to read about the elements of photography and its foundations, etc. And its a great book for that very purpose.
