What Is the Bermuda Triangle?

The Bermuda Triangle is a fictitious area in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean. The area’s boundaries are not universally agreed upon. But vaguely, it has its vertices roughly in Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico (San Juan).

Different writers and reporters, however, did not believe these vertices to be true and therefore, there were numerous regions defining themselves to be The Bermuda Triangle.

It is also referred to as the Devil's Triangle or Hurricane Alley. To know why? Read on.

What Is It Famous For?

The Bermuda Triangle is a mysterious section which is believed to be home for around 4000 deaths. More than dozens of airplanes and ships have allegedly disappeared in this area – often, without a trace. This is what makes it one of the most famous and debatable mysteries of the world.

Incidents related to the Bermuda Triangle -

Want to know about some of the incidents that led to the eerie reputation of The Bermuda Triangle? Some of the most famous incidents are listed below.

1. Flight 19 -

One of the earliest incidents was that of Flight 19 with a group of five U.S. Navy torpedo bombers. During a routine training exercise in 1945, they vanished into thin air in the area now known as the Bermuda Triangle. The disappearance was mysterious because the planes were fully equipped and had been properly checked before they departed from the Station Fort in Florida.

Another thing that added fuel to the fire was that this incident happened during peacetime which eliminates the possibilities of any violence.

2. Star Ariel -

Star Ariel, a British passenger aircraft, went missing in 1949. The plane was flying over the Bermuda Triangle, making its way from Bermuda to Jamaica.

What lead to the mystery was, that the weather conditions at the time of the disappearance were calm, and no wreckage supporting a crash was ever found. All seven crew members and 13 passengers were lost.

3. Sulphur Queen -

The Sulphur Queen, a converted tanker ship was carrying molten sulphur along with its 39 crew members when it disappeared near the southern coast of Florida in 1963. When it failed to make any communication after a few days, search crews were sent out to look for it. The rescue team only found a few remnants of stuff like debris and life preservers.

4. Cyclops, Nereus and Proteus -

The Cyclops, an enormous ship, was lost at sea in 1918. It vanished without a particle of proof along with its 306 crew members and passengers. It was the single biggest loss of life in U.S. Naval history which was not a result of any combat.

Similarly, the Nereus was Cyclops' sister-ship which disappeared along the same route with a crew of 61 in the year 1941, as it made its way from the Virgin Islands to Portland.

The Proteus was the 3rd sister-ship of the Cyclops and Proteus. It was a merchant ship. It left its port from the Virgin Islands, moving to the United States. The ship carrying 58 men and merchandise of bauxite ore, never responded to communications after 23rd November 1941.

Conclusion -

Several extraordinary concepts have been presented trying to explain the events of disappearances. UFO stories, time warps, portals taking the victims to other dimensions, magnetic field abnormalities, and even methane gas bubbles have all been added in the list of the triangle's mysteries.

A famous theory suggests that the legendary drowned city of Atlantis lies below the Bermuda Triangle, and it is causing interference with the nearby vessels. In reality, the number of disappearances and deaths in the Bermuda Triangle is similar to any other commonly used region.

In fact, people navigate through that area every day without incident. No confirmation shows that the area experienced an unusually high number of disappearances. That region might be prone to accidents because a lot of tropical storms move through this region.

According to the Navy, the Gulf Stream there can cause swift, violent changes in weather, and its currents "can quickly erase any evidence of a disaster." Similarly, The US government does not recognize the Bermuda Triangle as an actual geographic location or a threat.
