1-Tell us more about your roles and responsibilities at your college.

College is always visualized as a place where you tend to meet a bunch of cool friends, good surroundings, loads of lifetime memories, and the zeal to get a degree at the end. But every student witnesses numerous changes meanwhile. My journey began from being just an unnoticed volunteer in a college event named ‘MONTAGE’. This event eventually turned out to be the paving path for undiscovered opportunities that were waiting for me. I have been a part of NSS in my freshman year.

I started volunteering and organizing more events. I actively took part in debates, MUNs, anchoring and it helped me regain my confidence. I am the Founder and Convener of WORD KRANTI, the Debating Society of Graphic Era University. We had organized an Inter-University Debate competition with immense participation from pioneer colleges of Dehradun.

Also, our society has been conducting various sessions and opens forum discussions even in the times of this pandemic. I have even done an internship at my college. In the past two years, I can proudly say from being a nobody, I am now a somebody in my college.

2- How did you rise up from your position and how can a student aspiring the same, approach it.

It’s always important to focus on the goals, not the obstacles. The first approach one should have is patience and acceptance towards failure. I believe that no great things can be achieved in just a day and you can’t rise when you don’t know what it is to fall. One should always believe in themselves and should never be scared of making mistakes as mistakes are always evidenced that you have at least tried.

I always had this thought in my mind that I cannot do anything if I am confined to the walls around me. It’s always important to push your boundaries, explore new things, and learn. I think that if you have the zeal, courage, and dedication towards what you want to do nothing seems impossible.

3- What’s it’s like to juggle between a leadership role and normal college life?

Balance is something every human being needs to have in their lives. Being a person who leads and being myself has never been easy. So, the easy way out to stabilize both of them is prioritizing. Our parents are probably the best example of equalizing things in life .there were times when I failed to maintain that balance too but I never stopped trying.

Planning things in advance and having a positive approach towards things helped me a lot. There were days when a normal college life had been at the bottom of my list but in the end, I always figured out a way to maintain equilibrium.

4-What have been some of the biggest challenges and learning from what you do?

The biggest challenge one faces and I faced was getting up from the bed every day and deciding I have to do something productive today, I have to make it count. I had to remain calm and composed in chaotic situations. Also, throughout my journey, I have met new people and not everybody is the same, you can’t tackle everyone using the same approach and sometimes it becomes difficult to deal with conflicts.

I believe that whatever you do in your life whatever you go through there’s always something that remains constant and that is learning. I always had the determination within that I won’t give up no matter what. I learned how to deal with stress, how to handle things, complete tasks even with immense pressure.

I learned that in a team there’s no I, there’s always we. Also, the most important thing I learned was to have an optimistic attitude towards everything in life.

5- Do you enjoy the kind of influence you hold at such a young age?

Well, I wouldn’t really say I enjoy it because with influence comes responsibility and expectations. If someone looks up to you, they listen to you then it becomes your responsibility not to let them down. So, in my opinion, being influential has both pros and cons. And I’ve always loved helping others.

6-What are your career goals and how is what you are doing going to help you with that?

I have always been an aspirant student from the very beginning of my school life. When I came to college that was the time I realized anyone can get a job but not everyone gets job satisfaction. So, I am planning to work in the booming field of Digital Marketing. Also, I wish to grow in my MUN career.

The skills you learn in college through such extracurricular activities are something that will always help you in the long run. Every organization looks for people who are capable of handling stress, good at organizing and admirable leaders as well so I think I have inculcated a lot of skills and values that are going to help me later on in my career.

7-What’s your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

‘People who outshine are the ones who are not among the common crowd’, this line has always motivated me to do get out of my comfort zone. I believe that internships are a practical way to apply your theoretical knowledge. They prepare you for the work you are actually going to do in the future.

Internships, training, and conferences are something were to get to learn a lot, you apply your skills in the real world. So, I think everyone should make the most out of the opportunities they get because opportunities neglected can never be recovered.
