1.Tell me about you and your journey.

My Name is Anchal Batra. I am a freelance makeup artist since 4 years. I was so sick with my job , pressures, time crunch, pleasing the bosses so I chose to step out of the corporate World and pursue something that I loved.

I was a makeup lover since childhood and couldn’t have thought of anything else except this. Since I am also a private person and a family lover, this profession gives me time with my own self. Not only this but fame, freedom to be creative, to interact with the beautiful ladies out there and what not.

2.Why did you choose this career?

The moment of realisation that made me think that I am doing something just to earn bread. But actual satisfaction and happiness was something that I realised I didn’t have. Makeup is my passion and is like a meditation to me .

It instantly calms my mind, I feel happy and my focus automatically shifts into creativity and positivity. So I thought that why not take it as a full time job/ career.

Now I earn even better and I am absolutely happy and satisfied with what I am doing. Bonus is that I also get time for my own self .

3.How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?

One has to understand that Rome was not built in a day. One needs to be patient initially. Sometimes will also have to work on certain projects for free but this will make you earn contacts that can be further beneficial.

Social media ofcourse plays a major role but, your attitude in the industry and your dedicated work is what will give you the most clients as the word of mouth chain is very powerful .

Make contacts, do shoots, have a good content on your page . You will surely get some amazing opportunities.

4.What are some of your top makeup tips?

Always prep the skin really well before makeup, this will NEVER give you a cracky look.

Rub ice before you apply makeup, this will shrink your pores and the makeup will look flawless.

Use cold green tea sachets (used ones) on ur eyes before makeup. This open ups the eye and also reduces puffiness if any.

Spray a fixing spray on ur blender while blending the foundation, this will make your makeup last a little longer than usual .

5.What kind of opportunities one can get after becoming makeup artist?

Loads of them . The world is yours. Fashion, bridal, shoots, Bollywood, brands, news channels, salons etc. Everywhere there is a demand of an Artist.
Choose your Interest and get into it .

6.Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?

I would suggest that the person should decide his area of interest and then take a proper course of that very genre . There is no point in becoming jack of all trades and master of none . Rather, become a Master of one (jack of all trades is again a cherry on the top)

Masterclass and YOUTUBE videos are a big NO NO incase you are a beginner. Go for a good course from India or anywhere you want but don’t forget PRACTICE is the key !

7.Your favourite book and why?

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, as it gives you a new way to direct and lead your life like a Master .
