CBS All Access: Embarking Towards Newer Opportunities

"The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment". – Howard Dietz. In today's technology-driven world, no industry can stay aloof to this development. Technology is greatly impacting the entertainment industry, forcing it to change its ways to move along the world's pace. In today's internet era, more and more online content is being produced and is being watched by millions and billions of people all over the world.

This content is made available to the people throughout the world through ott( over the top media services) platforms. These platforms are now growing exponentially because more and more people are shifting to these online platforms while ditching the traditional ways of TV experience. According to a survey, 50 million households across the globe have subscribed to some of the other ott platforms. The entertainment industry is now being shaped along these services to gain maximum engagement and viewership.

Because of such a drastic increase in the online viewership of shows, new and new platforms are being launched every day to meet the standards. Here are some of the best ott platforms around the world in 2020. While platforms like Netflix and prime are thriving and leading right now, CBS All Access has steadily beefed up its content offerings, bringing together the best parts of some rival services.

CBS All Access

CBS All Access is an American streaming video service owned and operated by CBS Interactive, a subsidiary of ViacomCBS. It offers original content, content newly aired on CBS's broadcast properties, and content from the ViacomCBS library. It includes live TV coverage, sports coverage, quality original content, and a catalog of films and series from franchises like Star Trek, Twilight Zone, and The Good Wife/Fight.

This platform was launched in 2014 as the first over the top (ott) offering by an American broadcast television network, which initially included all CBS programs and live streaming of CBS affiliated channels. As of February 2019, this service had already gained 4 million subscribers in the United States. A one-month subscription on this platform costs about $6-$8.

A plethora of Content

When CBS All Access was launched back in 2014, its content library was limited. Only shows and movies associated with CBS were available unlike Netflix or Hulu, which already had an impressive library back then. But this has gradually changed over the years, CBS now has one of the best collections of TV shows and movies some of which are NCIS, The late late show with James Corden, etc. Here's a list of some of the best CBS shows available on the platform.

Rebrand to Paramount+

Viacom CBS is rebranding its streaming service to Paramount+ early next year, the company announced on September 15. The newly changed streaming service will offer more than 20,000 episodes from ViacomCBS' litany of brands, such as Paramount Pictures, CBS, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET, and MTV, as well as live programmings like sports and news. Along with these, the service will also offer an array of original quality content.

Viacom and CBS had merged to become ViacomCBS last year after splitting apart in 2006, which were then later joined Disney+, NBCUniversal's Peacock, and HBO Max. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish had earlier described the company's plans for the expanded service as one that would allow it to showcase the company's biggest franchises and deep library, but also one that would leverage the company's IP for original content.

"Paramount is an iconic and storied brand beloved by consumers all over the world, and it is synonymous with quality, integrity, and world-class storytelling," said Bob Bakish, president and CEO, ViacomCBS, in a statement about the changes. "With Paramount+, we're excited to establish one global streaming brand in the broad-pay segment that will draw on the sheer breadth and depth of the ViacomCBS portfolio to offer an extraordinary collection of content for everyone to enjoy."

Conclusion

With the world being more and more digitized, the amount of online content is increasing exponentially every day. CBS All Access is one of the many ott platforms offering binge-worthy quality content. People from all over the world, are subscribing to these services in more and more numbers due to their range of content and a wider choice option. This growth is only expected to grow further as people are being more and more heavily invested in their digital lives and online world.
