Kolkata as we all know is a place of wonder, City of Joy, as we all refer to it. Many people know Kolkata for its mishiti doi and rasgulla, some know it for the love of football, and some know Kolkata for its cultural and heritage places and love for arts and films.

Whatever you are looking for, you'll get in Kolkata and it never stops to surprise anyone who comes for a visit. Most of the time when you visit Kolkata, your guide or anyone will tell you to visit Victoria Memorial or Indian Museum or Birla Planetarium.

But today I am providing you the list of places that you can visit when you come to Kolkata next time, and most of these places are not available in any tour book but these places will make you appreciate Kolkata and its everlasting beauty even more.


Hidden and Cool places to visit in Kolkata :


1. Tirreti Bazar: Now, who doesn't like Chinese food, and if you are a person who loves authentic Chinese food, you should visit Tirreti Bazar located in Central Kolkata. 

The place has a reputation for serving delicious and authentic Chinese food like Momos, Thukpa, Soups and many more. It is also called "Old China Market". It is recommended to go there as early as possible starting from 6 am. And I do recommend trying Chicken Momos, Pork Sausages.


2. Nipponzan Myohoji (Japanese) Buddhist Temple: Kolkata is a place where you'll find religious places or shrines of different religions or nations and Nipponzan Myohoji is a perfect example of it. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Kolkata located in Dhakuria in South Kolkata.

The temple with its pristine white building will make you forget about the hustle-bustle of the city. It is open from Monday to Sunday.


3. South Park Street Cemetery: South Park Street Cemetery was built in 1764 as a resting place dedicated to the pioneers of the British East India Company. The place covered in mosses will give you an eerie feeling and the ambiance of a cool and calm surrounded with Gothic Tombs will enrich your experience more.

It is located In Mother Teresa Sarani, Kolkata and is one of the largest Christian Cemetery located outside of America and Europe.


4. Kumartuli: Religious festivals and idols are a major part of Kolkata and Kumartuli is the perfect place to witness the art of handcrafting clay by the sculptors. Kumartuli is the home dedicated to 400 sculptors and artists, who work all year creating intricate and beautiful effigies and idols of deities. 

It is located near Hooghly Ghat and the nearby metro is Sovabazar Sutanuti.


5. Armenian Church of the Holy Nazareth: This church opened it's door for people in 1724 and is one of the oldest surviving churches in Kolkata built for the legacy of the Armenian community that flourished in Kolkata. It was built after the original Armenian Church got destroyed by fire. 

It is located in Armenian Street, Bortola in Barabazar Market.


6. Nahoum and Sons: Nahoum and Sons is the last surviving Jewish Bakery in Kolkata. The celebration of Christmas feels incomplete without plum and fruit cakes from Nahoum and Sons Confectioners. It was set up in 1916 when Nahoum Israel, a Jewish came and settled in British Calcutta and it is located in the Hogg Market.

It gained quick popularity among foreigners and locals and still, now the baked items are in high demand.

The next time you visit Kolkata, leave behind the cliché sites and visit these unknown, hidden places. These places will instill in you a sense of joy and wonder and you'll be wanting for more.
