To Lose Weight You Need to Change Your Mindset - Shalini Srivastava

If you have discipline and dedication anything is possible. You have to be disciplined in what you eat, how you balance workouts and dedication towards your commitment to be fit. 

1. Tell us more about yourself and your profession.

My name is Shalini Srivastava I am an entrepreneur and I manage my brand Calfnero which is a luxury brand that manufactures leather goods such as bags and belts. We hold exhibitions for my brand in many national and international locations and I manage many aspects of my business such as production, distribution and online sales.

Other than being an entrepreneur I am also a Taekwondo Champion who holds a black belt and have represented my country, India in many national and international games and won many championships. I was introduced to health and fitness at an early age while entering the world of Taekwondo and I have maintained a healthy lifestyle ever since. 

I am currently also an Instagram Influencer (@shalini.srivastava1976) with 311K followers on the platform. I mostly post about health, fitness, workouts and healthy recipes and love to positively motivate people to live a healthier and happier life. I also make videos on my YouTube channel and plan on growing my channel slowly focusing on healthy living and fitness.

2. What is your fitness mantra?

My fitness mantra is to stay calm, positive and consistent with your practice. I believe that a healthy lifestyle must be made into a habit. If you have discipline and dedication anything is possible. You have to be disciplined in what you eat, how you balance workouts and dedication towards your commitment to be fit.

3. What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?

There are many types of diets doing rounds, but the question is how long can you do it? To clear the misconceptions I believe in making the right choices about food, eat healthy, avoid junk and processed food, observe portion control and be active. This doesn’t mean you have to be at the gym 24 x 7 but find a balance of and exercise that suits you.

4. How can one maintain a healthy lifestyle?

A healthy lifestyle is all about following a discipline in diet and exercise. Commit yourself to better your life and health not to lose weight or look thin. Those are things which will follow if you persist on building a fit lifestyle.

Practicing mindfulness is a huge part of living a healthy life as well. Yoga is one of the things I really recommend to beginners as it not only improves your flexibility, and builds your stamina but also helps you meditate and focus on your inner self which is a key aspect of living a fulfilled and healthy life.

5. How can one build a successful career in your field?

One can build a successful audience base online to become a fitness influencer only through consistency of content. People often give up easily and that is their biggest downfall in becoming content producers online. 

The key is to keep pushing yourself because someone somewhere is appreciating your work. It is all about sharing your experiences and learning from others . Keep faith and keep on doing what you love.

6. What is one piece of advice you would like to give someone who wishes to lose weight?

To lose weight you need to change your mindset. You need to change your lifestyle to reach your goal. Be active and make conscious choices with food. Accept your body and don't go by weighing scales, its about being fit and toned.
Once you have the correct goal of healthy living set nothing and no one should have the power to stop you. 

To lose weight you need to exercise daily at least for an hour, eat clean, which means no junk food, no processed foods, less intake of sugar and eating more raw veggies and fruits. A combination of a good diet and daily exercise will help you tremendously.

7. How do diets and exercise contribute to overall well being and happiness?

See if you eat well and work out your brain releases happy hormones which help in uplifting your mood and making you feel more confident. Also the more active you are the more toned your body will be and this physical change also helps in feeling more self satisfied and accomplished. So the key is eat well eat healthy and definitely engage yourself in any form of activity.
