1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I'm Pooja Meena, an Indian girl with high aspirations. I'm a graphic designer by the day, the creator by evening and a happy soul by night. I'm a BFA graduate i.e. Bachelor of fine arts.
I've won titles like "Artist of the year", "creative mind" and prices in many competitions back in school days. I've worked for brands like Paytm, amazon prime, ceat, MX player, Budweiser, MobiKwik, treebo, sony liv, etc so far.
My journey is basically from a digestive system diagram to Advertisement. It started from 3rd standard where I drew a diagram as homework and the appreciation that I received completely changed my perspective towards art. I always knew art is something that I'm meant for.
So I continued with art in my early school. Later, like every Indian typically parents, my parents wanted me to leave art and do some engineering stuff. But destiny had some other plans for me.
Luckily I got fine arts as my optional subject in high school at Cambridge Court High school, Jaipur.
I've got the best mentors who guided me throughout and still continuing. I can't thank them enough.
2. When did you decide you wanted to be a Digital creator/illustrator?
One of my guest lecturer Ravi Gaurav, who is also a designer, inspired me to be a digital creator. While starting I didn't plan it to be this big because I didn't have a lot of time for it. Then comes corona followed by lockdown and because of this, I got time to create designs for my page.
A lot of other creators like pinkesh, Vivek, minimal banda, Coderwhodesigns, chaibuoy inspired me in the beginning and the list goes on.
3. What is a role and scope of work for a graphic designer?
Graphic design is a growing industry and it has immense potential. When you talk about marketing, graphic design comes handy.
Graphic design holds a large array of products and services from ordinary to extremely fun and creative. You can either enhance your skills in a single aspect of graphic design or become proficient in a large array of graphic design skills.
4. Where do you get inspired to create art?
Art is wild and imaginative. Great art inspires me to create more. It gives them the freedom to travel without any boundaries. Art is limitless, so is its impact. A room full of artworks is a hell lot of a motivation for me.
5. Who is your favourite artist and why?
There are a number of artists I look up to. Ramin Nasibov, Ronald Ong, Pablo Rochat are a few of them. Mr Ogilvy is already every designer's inspiration.
6.What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
My art being appreciated and helpful for people/business is a success for me. All that an artist ever want is an appreciation for his art because there's no money to justify enough. My mantra in life is to go with the flow.
7. Which are some of the tools and Softwares that a graphic designer must be aware of?
Adobe Photoshop and illustrator are enough for any designer to start with graphic designing. After effects or any 3d modelling software is just icing on the cake.
8. What kind of book do you prefer to read?
I'm not a bookworm but I like to read about why/how businesses failed. Also about good and bad advertisements. That's one thing that helps me understand the other side of the coin.
Books like "steal like an artist", "logo modernism" and "that's my type" are among the best for designers.
