The constitution of India
says all Indians are equal. Unfortunately reality is opposite side to an
equivalent. Indian society is inequitable. Discrimination exists within
religion, castes and sex.
We are all from an
equivalent Nation. We are all having equal rights and therefore the opportunity
to urge an education and job. But currently we can see that India is affected
from the reservation system especially general category people and it’s
damaging our education system.
Certain sections of our
society are the deprived sections, this can’t be denied by anyone, least by the
government, which is that the Apex Body for creating policies and should remove
disparities.
Reservation
an affirmative action at the time of independence:
At the time of
independence, the manufacturer of the Constitution had rightly envisioned that
the deprived section of society needed to be improved through education and
development.
Reservation to the
backward classes, scheduled tribes and scheduled castes was essential so on
bring them at par with the others. It was an effort to create equality and
equity in educational, economic and social areas.
However, this social
action was to be effective for fewer than ten to twenty years. It had been an
attempt to strive for an egalitarian society.
Reservation
after 50 years:
Even after 50 years of
independence, the minorities and the oppressed are still deprived because only
the creamy layer is being benefited by reservation.
As a matter of fact, the
scope of reservation has enlarged to quite extent. Today, it's sad to mention
that different religious communities also are demanding the reservation as they
need the privilege of reservation to be extended to them.
Political
agenda:
Reservation are actually
not reaching the people for whom they are really intended rather it has today
become a slogan for the political parties to win voters from the backward
classes and tribes.
The game plan of the
politician is clearly evident in this “Quota Raj”. Reservation today isn't just
an social action but has become a way for getting more and more benefits.
Vested
interest:
As a matter of fact, it's
triggered competition among communities for proving their backwardness.
Reservation provides some benefits within the employment and education to the
backward, creating vested interests.
Today, many communities
want to be considered backward instead of forward.
Is
it discriminatory?
Is it not injustice to
offer special privileges on the idea of birth? Does this not take away the
rights of a brilliant student for securing a seat in higher education and
getting a job in the government sector?
In India caste is that the
predominant factor used for reservation in Government jobs and in education. As
a matter of fact in states like Tamil Nadu, there is reservation of 69% seats.
Reservation on the basis
of caste actually leads to explosion. If one looks at it closely, other
backward classes are like forward classes on many parameters.
They outshine forward
castes in business ownership, rural employment, land holding and are wealthier
than their forward counterparts. Allocating Quotas or reservation is nothing
but a form of discrimination and an election trick.
50 years of reservations
and India still harping on backwardness, clearly proves that reservation has in
no way improved the status of lower classes.
Give
rise to mediocrity:
‘Meritocracy’ has been
sacrificed at the raised structure of reservation which is very damaging,
especially when India is moving towards becoming an economic superpower, merit
is the only tool which can help India compete with the developed countries of
the planet .
If our legislators still
divide our country on the inspiration of caste, religion and community by
offering privileges to some sections of the society then drain of our
intellectuals would continue.
Leaving the country
starved of brilliant students seeking admission abroad and migrating
permanently to other countries. With scarcity of jobs in our countries, stiff competition
and reservation, the Indian youth is left with no option but to seek greener
pastures.
Political
parties and reservation:
Is it not ironical that an
equivalent political parties, who blow the trumpet of reservation, don't like
better to be treated by doctors, coming from the backward castes?
The cutoff for the general
class candidate in nothing less than above 90-95% in a good education
institution. For a backward class, there's no lower limit. It simply depends on
the number of the reserved seats available.
In the end, i might wish
to say that reservation is not any solution, especially in education and
professional colleges.
Conclusion:
As a matter of fact,
proper facilities of education and other incentives should be provided at the
extent of faculty education in order that the youngsters coming from the
backward community are ready to stand on their two feet and compete with the
others for seats in education.
Reservation are like
crutches which can always convince be a handicap for the deprived section of
the society. India doesn't need handicapped people to realize its goal of
becoming an excellent power but needs people with substance who can represent
it on the worldwide arena.
In short, Reservation may
be a curse, which is dividing our Country on the idea of caste, community and
religion. We need to be united not divided for becoming a force to reckon with
“United with stand-divided we fall”.
