Ashish Joshi - I Have Always Been Inclined Towards Nature and Animals (Social Activist)

Champ and I, both knew that no miracle could grow his legs back, but the will to still keep living happily is what inspires me, every day, every moment.

1. Tell us more about yourself and your life.

Hello, I am Ashish Joshi, an undergraduate in architecture. I have just completed my graduation. And I have been working towards my passion for four years.

2. What led you into social activism?

It all began when I saw a mother of puppies die in front of me, and I just couldn't let the puppies go, so I took them all home. Got them all adopted and kept one with me. I named him Sunny. He has been my companion ever since.

3. What is that one cause you care deeply about and why?

I have always been inclined towards nature and animals. And that, I feel, has always kept me going. Taking tougher steps.

4. If one wants to contribute and make a difference in social causes, how can one do it?

I feel, if one really feels responsible, one should step in and do something. Even if one does the smallest thing, it still helps. If you cannot contribute time, you can help people like me, by donating in terms of money or paying for water tanks in summers for the trees or food or medications for dogs.

5. Who is your role model, and why?

I met this dog about a year ago, a vehicle had run over his front legs, took him to vets who said I should euthanise him. But, something in that dog's eyes said, he wanted to live, and I gave in. Today the dog, who I fondly call champ, is very strong and normal.

Champ and I, both knew that no miracle could grow his legs back, but the will to still keep living happily is what inspires me, every day, every moment.

6. What are some of the challenges and roadblocks you have faced along your journey?

We think that if people can't contribute by helping us do this work, they'd atleast cheer for us or motivate us. Sadly, the truth is that we live in a society where people see nothing above their own convenience. They not only stop us from working but reward us with bad words and threats daily.

The other challenge that we face is that all of us who work are students with no stable income. Therefore, we have to struggle every month to meet the ends.

7. Your opinion about social media activism.

Social activism has really helped me grow, and meet many new people who not only appreciate our work but were always there to grant us support.

I am thankful to all the people who come forward, help us and, motivate us.
Thank you
