Do's And Don'ts Before And After Taking The Covid Vaccine


With the largescale COVID immunization drive under way, everyone needs to be vigilant and aware of the do's and the don'ts before and after the administration of the vaccine. 

There have been cases of side-effects or mild illness post the vaccine, which is why it is important to monitor our activities regardless of the vaccine (Covaxin or Covidshield) being administered. 

Now let’s look at what are things that should be considered before vaccination:

1. Before taking the shot consult a doctor regarding your current medical condition.

2. For people who have been infected for the last one month or 1 1/2 month taking a vaccine is not advisable.

3. People who have received blood plasma or monoclonal antibodies as part of Covid-19 treatment, should refrain from taking the vaccine within the stipulated time period recommended by the doctor. 

4. Practice a healthy, nutritious and a balanced diet before and after the shot.

5. People should not become anxious and can get counselling if possible.

6. People suffering from cancer or undergoing chemotherapy should seek medical advice.

7. Person having diabetes or blood pressure should monitor their current status before taking the shot.

8. In case a person has allergies to medication or drugs, it is important to get an all-clear certificate from a medical practitioner.

9. It is important to follow the instructions provided by the vaccination center.

10. Should maintain social distancing while standing or sitting.

11. Carry a bottle of sanitizer with you and wear a mask.

Do's and don'ts after getting vaccinated

1. Do not engage in strenuous work immediately after getting a vaccine. 2-3 days of rest is recommended. 

2. Even after getting the first shot, you must maintain the social distancing norms without letting your guard down. Avoid gatherings until after the completion of the 2 doses.

3. It is advisable to get good sleep. Refrain from smoking and alcohol.

4. If you experience any discomfort after vaccination it is important to consult your doctor.

5. Eat good food with good nutrients in you diet. 

6. Should increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables and it is important to stay hydrated. Dehydration may cause some major issues

Common side effects post-administration of the COVID vaccine

1. Pain, redness or swelling where the shot was given.

2. Fever

3. Fatigue

4. Headache 

5. Muscle Pain

6. Chills

7. Joint Pain

8. Nausea 

9. Swollen lymph nodes
