What We Can Learn From the Kerala Model of Handling the Pandemic?

Corona virus infections disease has affected millions of people across the world and the number of death due to COVID is undeniable. In different parts of the world government is fighting hard for the life of people.

India is currently the worst hit country with more than three lakh cases per day. Kerala the southern state of India is one of the state which is reporting large number of cases.

We have all come across many reasons for the atrocious second wave of COVID. There are many people culpable for this. The entire country is in trepidation. The only state in India which is in a fearless fight is Kerala. Kerala has a different.

Why Situation In Kerala is Better?

The cases in Kerala is inordinate but the mortality rate is very low. Kerala has strapping administrative system and sedulous health department which is a reason for this. The Kerala model has been extensively admired all over the world.

The honourable chief minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan and the heath Minister K.K Shailaja along with the entire administrative system has done a astounding job in altercation of COVID-19 .

The health centres have been provided with all the prerequisite for testing the virus and it has been made accessible to all the common people. Every ward has been assigned with health centre where all the COVID related issues can be approached.

If a person has been infected with virus he has been in complete isolation and a full-fledged treatment is provided .The route map of the infected person is clearly identified and all the primary and secondary contacts are been quarantined and a test has been conducted after a week or if they have mild symptoms .This has backed to dwindle the escalation of virus greatly.

Important Steps Taken By Government Of Kerala

The people coming from other states have been quarantined and tested. A rapid test was also conducted on people to know the infection. Even if the patient is isolated in home ,the health workers are very careful  about the person and make regular phone calls in order to update the condition of patient.

Kerala has a well build health system. Currently the only State in India where there is oxygen surplus is Kerala. The well-established health system and wise government is always the asset of the state especially in this uncertain pandemic.

The state has relaxed some restrictions when curve came down. The cases were reduced and the situation have been tranquil. People considered it as granted and celebrated every functions. Election in Kerala was a boost to this situation. With all these the second wave of COVID hit Kerala the worse.

But the story of Kerala is a bit different. There is no any person in the state who has died due to lack of oxygen. There is no any patient who has been repudiated treatment. There is no person who doesn’t have free access to test the infection. There is no any person who has died due to hunger in this crisis.

All these makes this southern state to stand out from the rest of nation. The social investment in rural health and the wisdom of planners along with the corporation of people back in action can once again fight the deadly virus and can be exemplary in the world.
