Preet Bhullar - I Was Always Scared of What People Would Think about Me or What People Will Say (Entrepreneur From Australia)

The manager-employee relationship is the most important relationship at every stage of the employee’s journey, and it has a significant impact on employee experience. Managers affect employees’ work experience in how they empower them, help them develop their strengths, and engage with them.

At last, Ask Questions when you are new. If you don’t ask questions now then when will you? Everyone knows you are new at this point and they will answer you.

Tell us more about your company and your journey.

About my company and experience —Woolworths is an Australian chain of supermarkets and grocery stores owned by Woolworths Group. Founded in 1924, Woolworths today is Australia's biggest supermarket, I started work in woollies (Woolworths) in 2018.

I was hired as a night fill team member then got transferred as front end team members (customer service/ cashier) I also work as an online team member (personal picker) so I pick and shop for online orders), it's a really good experience to work with Woolworths.

I really love my workplace and friendly team member, I am the only Indian in our customer service team, its a more fun type of job as I meet new people every day, it's my biggest pride that I work for Woolworths, and the best thing my manager call me “woollies ninja “ and she is new at our workplace and she shocked with my scan rate as I am the fastest scanner at our workplace, I love to see her shocked whenever she check my weekly scan rate as I am going up and up day by day

What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?

Can say and born introvert who became a full-blown extrovert! I was always scared of what people would think about me or what people will say. I had that hidden talent of being funny, had those stories and ideas in my mind and wanted to convert them into stories but was too afraid to fail or just made fun of as a flop artist.

I was not too comfortable talking to different people, not only on social media but also at work. I learnt slowly, I work in retail and greet & talk to various customers every day.

I started using social media and got pretty famous, got the hype on TikTok and Instagram. When people starting giving positive response and appreciating me, it boosted my confidence and slowly it killed my social anxiety or fear after getting family and community’s support and love.

Now I love to socialise, meet happy and positive people and talk to them. It makes me happy.

What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?

I think the most important qualities of an employee are his/her honesty, loyalty, hard work, constantly improving their skills, efficiency& their dedication towards work.

I feel that my strongest attribute is my ability to work well under stress. Under stress or pressure- many people have difficulty being productive- but I have had to learn how to cope with the stress and remain productive.

I firmly believe that stressful situations provide us with opportunities to grow- both personally and professionally. In short, I view stress as an opportunity to rise to the occasion and learn more about myself. I feel that this trait can provide me with benefits regardless of the situation I find myself in.

What are some of the most important factors for running a successful business?

I like to maintain a consistent level of productivity and take both my successes and failures in stride. I try to learn from both and apply that knowledge to future situations.

For Example:- My rank was 15 when I started in the year 2018 and my rank is 22 now which means, Which is very hard to get, My manager calls me “Woolies Ninja” at work. I got the highest scan rate in my store. I train new employees as well as I want everyone to work with equal dedication in my workplace.

What are your tips for the first time and aspiring entrepreneurs?

Respect all employees and try to work in a team when required. Try to learn and listen as much as you can from old employees when you are new. Never take things personally in training as they will tell you what you do wrong. Keep Smiling and keep learning.

A good attitude is a must. Maintain Good Manager-Employee Relationship as well.

The manager-employee relationship is the most important relationship at every stage of the employee’s journey, and it has a significant impact on employee experience. Managers affect employees’ work experience in how they empower them, help them develop their strengths, and engage with them.
