Mahima Dhoot - I Love Creating Content Around Food and Experimenting With Different Recipies (Food Blogger and Content Creator from India)

Mahima Dhoot

I started blogging in March 2020 but just as a hobby, personal page to document all the good food I’m eating. I decided to pursue it full time in Jan 2021 & make it my progression.

Tell us about your upbringing, background and journey.

I’ve done my undergraduate degree in History & Politics from the University of Warwick and my postgraduate degree in gender & media from The London School of Economics.

I started my blog in 2020 as a way to showcase all the amazing food I was having and just as a hobby. But in a few short months, I realised that I wouldn’t enjoy doing anything else as much as this. My interest in food has been there for as long as I can remember.

I’ve always been the person asking about what’s there for lunch/dinner - researching restaurants extensively & so on. My mum especially is a foodie too, so that definitely shaped my taste.

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in March 2020 but just as a hobby, personal page to document all the good food I’m eating. I decided to pursue it full time in Jan 2021 & make it my progression.

What type of content do you enjoy creating more - lifestyle, food or travel related?

I love creating content around food. Especially recipes - it’s always fun to experiment.

What have been the biggest challenges you have faced in this industry?

Biggest challenges: Brands are always looking for barter Collabs and not paid ones. The biggest challenge is showing them that blogging & content creation takes a lot of time & effort & is at the end of the day like any other business that deserves to be compensated monetarily.

Another challenge is not obsessing over the follower count. Social media can take up a lot of your time and it’s easy to compare your count to others. Especially when it matters so much to brands etc. So to separate that and not let it affect you is definitely a challenge.

What does your typical day look like?

A typical day is: I wake up in the morning answer emails, make a to-do list of things I need to do for the day. I work out then I sit to create content. I usually conduct shoots / shoot my recipes in the first half of the day as the lighting is the best.

I take an hour break for lunch & then I edit my videos and content to post in the evening. After that, I’m on Instagram engaging replying to comments & so on. Once that’s done I see if I have any other pending editing work (for other brands or my page) & get on with that.

Which is your favourite food & what makes you appreciate it?

My favourite food is either pizza or dosa! I cannot resist either. But my favourite meal of all time is the andhra thali from Nagarjuna in Bangalore.

Which is your favourite movie/show?

The favourite tv show is so hard to pick there are so many options. My top 5 would be Money Heist, The Bold Type, Game of Thrones, YOU, The Office.
