The most important makeup tip I think is to know that Less is More when applying makeup. Always dot the makeup on your face and apply very little or just the adequate amount and don’t go with a lot of it.
Hi, I am Dikshita and I am an engineer turned professional makeup artist. I have been passionate about makeup since my childhood. Using my pocket money I bought my first makeup kit and I started making makeup videos when I was in engineering college. One day I watched an international artist turning into a celebrity and I was stunned I started practicing that and searched a lot about such transformations. My videos started taking a boom when I did the Kokila video. And when I made Rekhaji’s transformation video, my art started reaching more and more people and I have been improvising since.
2. Why did you choose this career?
I chose this career because makeup has always been my passion and area of interest. I love creativity and makeup is a great way to express that.
3. How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?
One should do a lot of work towards building a genuine portfolio first. After that, they should get some industry experience or they can start fresh. People start noticing your work once you have a lot of it to show and tell. Also, always be gentle and listen to what your clients are demanding and assure them that you will try to give your best to them. If needed, you can also give them a trial first.
4. What are some of your top makeup tips?
The most important makeup tip I think is to know that *Less is More* when applying makeup. Always dot the makeup on your face and apply very little or just the adequate amount and don’t go with a lot of it. Work only on areas where you need more coverage. Using fewer products gives a flawless base that lasts longer. It’s a trick that every celebrity makeup artist swears by. Also, never forget to prep your skin properly before applying makeup.
5. What kind of job opportunities one can get after becoming a make-up artist?
One can be a bridal makeup artist or a theatre makeup artist. They can also work in either fashion shows or be a celebrity makeup artist. One can work on movie sets like that of The Walking Dead, Jurassic park, and Marvel movies if they are an SFX, Prosthetics artist.
6. Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?
There are a variety of makeup courses that one can do. For bridal, there are Advanced makeup artistry courses or if you want to learn how to create a realistic wound or do a zombie's face, you would want to do the SFX (Special Effects Makeup) course.
7. Your favorite book and why?
My favorite makeup book is “Face Forward” by Kevyn Aucoin. Kevyn Aucoin's face appeared in editorial features, fashion shows, music videos, and advertising campaigns as well as on the covers of virtually every major magazine. This book is the number one guide for aspiring makeup artists.
