I heard this line for the first time in some interviews.Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

If you are in your 20s, probably you might have heard this more often. And yes, you are the right reader as you step into adulthood. But don’t ponder to find the answer in this article. You won't find it here, rather this would make you think of it!

The perfect reply for this interview question can be cooked if you see yourself as a senior manager in a big corporate company or maybe running your own business. But that answer is just a constructed sham statement. In order to clear the interview, we all have such fancy replies.

I didn’t give it a thought unless I became aware of the fact that most of my batch-mates were getting ‘settled’. Don’t hook your eyes on the apostrophes of settled, you will relate to it soon. Some were having a Good job, Some were getting married , some were even celebrating their child's 2nd birthday.

Where am I? In my 30’s?
Hey, I just started to live my 20’s life. Heart said.
Na.na. you are almost past half of your 20s. It’s time to settle!!Tada..!
Brain scored.
But hey, wait a minute... What would be my age then?
I would be 37…!!Ooh that's disturbing.
That is almost my dad's age when I was seven years old.
So probably I would be having a kid of seven...
I would be dressing her up for the school.
I would be buying books and toys for her.
Come on…No way!
It is not in the near future. Heart whispered.
Hello… It is just gonna happen in Ten years!
The brain is strong, I guess.
Wait, let's calculate.

Think of your age in bold number, think of next ten consecutive numbers. Gaze through any milestone that can happen in your life in each of these years. Take a moment to think of that, year by year.

Did you reach your kid’s playschool? What do you feel now? A smile or a fear?
It’s pure normal-ism . It’s pathetic… Heart said again.
Do you think it’s pathetic? Who do you think you are? Do you have a dream to chase? A passion to run behind? No.

You are just another piece of a regular human being. You are normal. So run the rat race. Do what they say. That is the only way.

Brain said in a loud voice.
Do you want a more pathetic situation?
Brain continued.

Let's suppose, that nothing worked well for you. No job, No love. What's your life then? You will have to live a more wretched life.So it’s better to be normal when you have no other choice. Brain turned back and left. The heart stayed silent.Thought it would end there? No. When we drown in deep water, memories flash in our mind and motivate us to swim against the current.

Your thoughts about your marriage and kids when I asked you to think about future, is not your fault. It’s mine. I had mentioned it in the previous paragraph and your subconscious mind, without your consent, made you to gaze through it. Likewise, our society has created certain notions about how life should be. About how success is more important than satisfaction. And about how want overrules need.

We can see all sorts of people around us. Some may not have a single penny with them, but they will be happy. Some might be travelling all the time. Some take photographs. Some do research in their areas of interest.  And yes, we all have our areas of interest. It's just a matter of time to find it out. The realization of where you belong to. It's okay to change your careers. It's okay to not have a plan. It's okay to fail. Smile at things. We all are humans. We are bound to make mistakes. After all,the purpose of life is to find sheer bliss.
