1. Tell me about you and your journey.

My name is Akshita Karhana and I’m currently doing my graduation from Sri Venkateswara College, DU. I’m 19 years old and I aspire to become a renowned makeup artist and other than makeup my interest lies in art and watching web series.

So basically, I started using makeup while I was in school. Just like any other little girl fiddling with her mother's lipstick  I have been fascinated and curious about makeup since a very young age, so I think that curiosity never left and that’s why I love exploring this field so much.

2. Why did you choose this as your career option?

Whenever I try out a new makeup look and I succeed at creating it, it makes me feel really good. I'm a follow your heart type of person so I chose this career because it makes my heart truly happy.

3. How can one build a clientele as a makeUp artist?

To be honest, there's no secret mantra to build your clientele, one needs to work for it, you’ve to increase your reach as much as possible.

Collaborate with different brands and other upcoming artists so that maximum people can notice. Basically, the goal is to make yourself and your work seen to as many people as possible.

4. What are some of your top makeup tips?

I believe one should never feel the 'need' to apply makeup perhaps one should want to do it and well if they do my most important advice to them would be, always moisturise your skin before putting makeup for a perfect finish and set your makeup with a fixing spray when you’re done.

5. What kind of job opportunities can one get ad yet becoming a makeup artist?

Nowadays there is an ample number of options, you can tie up with different beauty brands, salons and other makeup artists or you can obviously go for freelancing.

6. Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?

So for course, there are a lot of universities and fashion schools that provide you with amazing makeup courses that one can check out for themselves according to one's area of interest and other than that I believe one can always learn from the best top inspiring makeup artists.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. This book taught me to only move forward no matter what because being stuck or going back doesn't make any sense.

There's nothing left in the past for us and moving forward is the only answer to all our problems. The description really helps with the visualization.
