One of my producers (Militant Marxman) is a childhood friend. We got into Hip Hop together and when he started making it for himself, it inspired me to do so. I got into it from there and got more serious as time went on.
1. Tell us more about your background and journey.
I started making music when I was in High School after I figured out I wasn't going to be a professional basketball player lol. It proved to be the best outlet for me. Writing became my life, and I went on to become an English Teacher but stepped away a few years ago to pursue music full-time. I've been blessed to be able to continue to do so, and the best is yet to come.
2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?
One of my producers (Militant Marxman) is a childhood friend. We got into Hip Hop together and when he started making it for himself, it inspired me to do so. I got into it from there and got more serious as time went on.
3. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way, and how did you respond to them?
To advance in this industry, this has to be your life. It took a while for me to get used to the fact that I had to constantly reinvest in my career which meant saying goodbye to certain luxuries most people get to indulge in after working hard for a number of years.
This is also a really saturated industry with a lot of people making headway for the wrong reasons, so it's a constant effort to make sure I don't get lumped in with that crowd. I just push through by reminding myself I get to do what I love every day, and by delivering meaningful and memorable content.
4. How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Lyrically dense, visceral, vivid, innovative.
5. Who and what inspires you to keep creating and exploring?
I'm motivated from within and by people who believe in me. A small portion of my motivation comes from the idea that if I don't see this through, someone less deserving will, so I will always fight for my spot one way or another.
6. What has been the most memorable moment in your career to date?
In 2018, I was able to tour the country as part of the legendary Vans Warped Tour and recently I was featured in Rolling Stone alongside Beats Not Bullets, a nonprofit music education program that I work with. Both of those things stand out quite a bit as does working with artists I look up to like Joell Ortiz and Statik Selektah.
7. What are some of your upcoming projects?
I have a sample free version of "The Living Game" coming soon; it's called "The Living Game: Transplants"; I have more coming as well, but that's all I can speak on right now. Look for that to drop in the fall.
