If simply we say vocabulary is nothing but usage of words while speaking a specific language. But this is not so constrained and minor. It has wide-ranging aspects and plays a very crucial role while having any sort of conversation. I think it is very vital to rightly select and use the words to have expected effects.
Your vocabulary is basically the knowledge of words of a specific language. If you will have more words in your memory that will surely enlarge your choices and give you better conversation lines.
Whereas less knowledge of words can be a hurdle while conversing or it can also make your conversation boring and less interesting.
But don’t worry today I have come up to discuss the solution, not the problem. There are different ways that can actually help you in improving your vocabulary to a significant extent. Let’s discuss those briefly :
Develop a routine practice of adding new words to your memory - By adding new words you must get a thought of adding more English words. But it's not the only language that is used as a medium to converse.
You just need to be more attentive and rigorous while doing regular tasks like having conversations, listening to anyone, or watching movies. You just need to grasp as much as you can from your surrounding sources.
Reading good literature can really help - The most effective and easy way to enhance your vocabulary is reading. By good literature, I mean which fosters a habit of reading and improves your level of understanding. It should also contain sorts of new words for you that you learn after reading it.
You should circle or underline every new word which you find while reading. Then, write it in a separate notebook or diary wherever you wish to but keep that stuff segregated. Keep adding new words to the list!
If you are thinking that you are asked to read lengthy novels then please don’t make it that bulky! You can access any reading material; newspaper articles, short stories, biographies, or any knowledgeable stuff.
Use the new words you get to know - More than anything else using those new words which you learn is much more important. Once you use a word you actually get to know its right connotation and the right way to put it.
What people actually do is they learn new words but don’t use them frequently. This way it gets erased from their memory.
Try to learn synonyms - This practice of finding alternative words for a word really enhances your vocabulary. It basically widens your knowledge of words and gives you good control over words.
Having known more synonyms makes your conversations more impactful and interesting. You can memorize synonyms by writing them down with the original word itself in any noticeable form such as flowcharts or GOs.
You might have noticed that whenever you search the meaning of any word on google you’ll get many synonyms too that makes your understanding clear. This way you should collect these synonyms and pair them with the words.
Play word games - There are many online games that are a great way of learning new words, their right use, and their proper meaning. It is something ‘fun and learns’ that’s why it has greater efficacy.
As these word games use semantic skills which foster any individual’s interest and make him/her inquisitive. Moreover, playing word games tests your level too and how vast your vocabulary is.
Put emphasis on your pronunciation and correct use - This might not seem important to most of you but this is where you slip off. Of what use those words be if you are not able to pronounce them correctly? As a result, you would not be able to convey properly what you are willing to.
Similarly, if you have a bunch of words with their respective meanings but you are using them incorrectly. Dear! That’s of no use.
Everything is equally significant so you should never stop learning and indulging in different processes. Knowledge of words is not enough and is a waste until you do not know their right use and pronunciation.
Nothing can come to you with magic! Each effort of yours is added up and pushes you closer to success. Put in the effort and get out results!
