Samhita Sharma: Inspiration is Everywhere (Makeup Artist From India)

It gets better with time so you have to keep at it.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I am Samhita Sharma, a Visual Designer, Makeup artist, and full-time - content creator on Instagram.

I am from a small city called Kanpur in UP India. I was a boarding kid. Later I studied at the National Institute of fashion technology Bangalore and completed a bachelor's in design, then worked at several luxury high-end designers. I started my makeup journey in Mumbai.

When corona hit us all and I was working from home too. Makeup was not something new to me, I have always had a love for it since I was a kid, but I started experimenting during the lockdown, I slowly started getting the recognition, and then I pursued this as a full-time job. Since then I haven’t stopped.

I was approached by Instagram creators to represent myself on their official Instagram creators page and then I won the Most Buzzworthy Content award from Marcos beauty that was really a dream come true, plus a great booster for me as it can get quite overwhelming being in this field but I’m only moving forward now!

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

I started this journey during lockdown 2020. I started putting out videos on Instagram and slowly started getting recognized by big brands and a few of my videos went viral which gave me the courage to do more.  I don’t feel like this is a job. It’s something I love and I feel free when I’m creating something.

3. Is content creation a financially sustainable career?

Yes, it is! But Once you grow a good following on Instagram. In the start, it’s a little hard to manage but it is manageable if you keep creating and being consistent with your work, and give quality content, brands do recognize you and you eventually do get paid collaborations. It gets better with time so you have to keep at it.

4. Who is your favorite creator and why?

I am mostly into runway/editorial/ Avant-garde/Creative makeup. I personally love a lot of creators, they all have something different and unique to offer but some of the few I would keep going back to, to get inspired, to see what new have they created would be Mei peng, Rowi Singh, Myla, Maytahmi these artists have something unique about them their particular styles, the way they create content and how hard they work just really pushes other creators to think out of the box!

They inspire me.

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

I usually get inspired by any and everything around me. It could be a print or a pattern on a bed sheet it could be a wallpaper I see something and then I am like, could I do them as to make-up on my face?

I also back to a lot of creators' accounts and get inspired by other makeup artists and their art or face charts.  So it’s a lot of things that one could get inspired from but it’s a whole process that goes into doing a look and making it come alive!

6. What does your typical day look like?

My typical day would look like I usually wake up around 9am, have my coffee and drive to the gym, come back to have breakfast and then I would shoot or edit, whatever I have decided for the day, which usually takes me 5 to 6 hours just to record something and then editing those things takes even more time.

So it depends on what I am really doing that particular day. Later I chill with friends or stay home and enjoy family time. I have two little babies a cat and a dog so I’m really invested in them mostly. That’s exactly how my day passes by and I don’t even get to know.

7. What is that you love about what you do the most?

I love what I am doing right now because it makes me feel free, it doesn’t give me the anxiety of going to work every day! I look forward to when I’m going to create something.  I feel most at peace, I have zero overthinking thoughts and I’m so indulged in it that I forget everything else. It somehow makes me feel very independent and confident.
