Manoj Dey Interview

“Don’t chase shortcuts—chase consistency. That’s what turns small beginnings into life-changing success.”

Q. What was the turning point when you realized YouTube could truly change your life?

The first time I heard that you could actually earn money by uploading videos on YouTube, it lit a spark in me. Suddenly, I felt a surge of hope that I could change my life and also improve things for my family. I started putting in the work, not really knowing how far it would go.

Then one day, I received my first payment—14,000 rupees. For me, that was the biggest turning point. That single moment showed me this wasn’t just a hobby; it could actually be a career. From that day, I never looked back, and I’ve kept moving forward ever since.

Q. In a town where most chased government jobs, you chose YouTube. What gave you the courage to take that different path?

In places like Dhanbad, the ultimate dream for most is a government job. And to be honest, I wasn’t the kind of student who excelled in academics to that level. More importantly, my interest was never in that direction. I was fascinated by the internet and technology. So I made a conscious decision to pursue what I actually enjoyed.

That’s what gave me courage, the belief that when you work on something you truly love, you can stay consistent and eventually succeed. That’s what I tell everyone today: study well, but also invest time in things that excite you. That combination is what brings both success and satisfaction.

Q. From one YouTube channel to podcasts, courses, and a tech store—how did your thinking shift from creator to entrepreneur?

When you’re on YouTube, you realize very quickly that your career is dependent on factors you don’t control, i.e, the algorithm, reach, and even policies. I’ve seen creators lose entire channels overnight.

And with YouTube’s circumvention policy now, if your channel gets deleted, you can’t just start a new one easily because they can track your voice and face.
That made me think seriously about stability.

YouTube is a great source of income, but it shouldn’t be the only one. That’s why I expanded into other areas like courses, a podcast, and even my own tech store. It’s about building a foundation that isn’t dependent on one platform, because long-term sustainability comes from multiple income sources.

Q. Your content often teaches online earning. What’s the biggest myth about a YouTuber’s income, and what should new creators know about the real math behind content creation?

The biggest myth is that YouTubers earn money directly from views. People think more views mean more money. But the truth is, YouTube pays for ads, not views. How much you earn depends on the kind of ads running on your videos.

For example, finance-related videos earn three times more per 1,000 views compared to a regular vlog, because financial brands pay higher ad rates. So it’s not just about making content, it’s about the niche you choose and the audience you attract.

New creators need to understand this from the beginning—don’t just chase views, focus on building the right kind of content that has real value for both the audience and advertisers.

Q. What mindset or strategic decisions helped you grow your YouTube channel from early failures and blocked monetization to millions of subscribers?

My only mindset was simple: I cannot stop. Even when my channels faced failures, or monetization was blocked, or views were low, I refused to give up. I had already decided that this was the path I wanted to build my life on. So instead of quitting, I kept learning, experimenting, and uploading.

Consistency became my biggest strength. Many people give up after a few setbacks, but I kept reminding myself—if I’ve come this far, why stop now? That persistence is what eventually led me from failure to millions of subscribers.

Q. If you could rewrite one unwritten rule of life, what would it be?

For me, it would be this: don’t overthink the future. Life is unpredictable, and you never know what’s going to happen next. The only thing in your control is how much effort you put into today.

If you give your full dedication to the present, your hard work will shape your future in ways you can’t even imagine. That’s the rule I live by.
