Board of Young Leaders Program Success Story: Mehak Luthra

Where are you working/studying now and how did Board of Young Leaders Program help you get there?/ How did the experience letter you gained from Eat My News help you?

I currently have admission offers from some top b-schools and my work at Eat My News had been a talking point in almost 6 out of 10 interviews I've given. The interviewers were really interested in my role as City President and the finer details of how things worked out. Not only did it give me a talking point for my interviews, it helped me stand out.

What was the most helpful aspect of Board of Young Leaders Program?

The most helpful aspect of the program for me was that it gave me a leadership opportunity straight out of my first year in college- a time when I wouldn't even have been hired for a lot of regular roles because I'd only completed my first year. The fact that you get a taste of hardcore leadership right at the start of your college life goes a long way in shaping your learning curve.

How did your internal transition take place?

I joined Eat My News initially as an intern in content. Soon enough, there were openings for leadership positions. I was extremely hesitant at first because I was barely two months in the job and also straight out of my first year in college, taking on the responsibility of managing the entire operations of the city at this point seemed slightly intimidating at first but I'm glad I took the plunge.

Any advice to candidates who want to become members at Eat My News?

I think it's a great platform which gives you an opportunity to explore your area of work interest while also becoming a part of this huge student-run community with great peers and a great top leadership. It exposes you to the finer nuances of working in and leading teams while also retaining the fun and flexible workplace environment that one would want during college years.
I'd only advice you to make the most of this opportunity, learn as much as you can, grab all the opportunities you get, try your hands on leadership and have a great time as well.
