You must have heard, you can live without food but not water. Water not only quenches your thirst but it revives your body every day without you noticing it. Warm water (lukewarm) replenishes the essential fluids of the body and has amazing benefits. Make sure, it is warm and not hot.
Warm water is at a temperature between 120°F and 140°F. Hot water (160°F and above) can burn the tongue and mouth and can scald the taste buds.

Why Not Cold Water?

Drinking cold water has its own benefits and risks. Drinking cold water makes nasal mucous thicker and more difficult to pass through the respiratory tract. In a cold or flu, drinking cold water might make your congestion get worse. Also, your body finds it difficult to absorb and extract minerals out of cold water.

Some studies show that drinking cold water can decrease heart rate and effect the involuntary functions of the body by affecting the vagus nerve and can also increase body shocks. Also, cold water can reduce fat breakdown and can lead to recurring constipation. Drinking cold water can aggravate some health conditions.

Drinking cold water can trigger migraine in people that already experience migraine. The pain related to achalasia, a condition that limits your body’s ability to pass food through your esophagus can also get worse when you drink cold water with a meal. However, drinking cold water during exercise prevents overheating of your body can help in preventing dehydration during the workout.

But the benefits of warm water dominate that of cold water.

It increases body temperature and thus increases metabolism that helps you burn more calories. Drinking warm water also clears out your intestines to prevent bloating in your body and you can get rid of excess water weight you may be carrying.

Drinking warm water is an excellent natural remedy for colds, coughs and a sore throat. Warm water increases temperature that speeds up the rate at which mucus may travel. It dissolves phlegm and also helps to remove it from your respiratory tract. This clears your nose and enables you to breathe well thus preventing upper respiratory problems. As such, it can provide relief from a sore throat and nasal congestion.

Warm water facilitates proper digestion by clearing the digestive track in your digestive system and also helps in emulsifying fats making them more digestible. It acts as a lubricant and keeps your digestive system going. As warm water moves through your stomach and intestines, digestive organs are better hydrated and able to eliminate waste at a faster rate than what they would if it would have been cold water. Warm water also dissolves and dissipate things you’ve eaten that your body might have had trouble digesting thus preventing constipation.

Warm water expands the blood vessels, increasing the circulation of blood to muscles and organs. This increases the blood circulation in your body. Due to improved blood circulation, your body promotes a healthy nervous system.
