1. Tell us more about your role and responsibilities at your college.
I am an Event Management Head in my college society named COMHUB.
My responsibility differs from work to work, for instance:
• I have organised a lot of events in my society.
• Managed my society's fest.
• Anchoring for my fest or any occasion.
• Worked with my team.
• Believe in team spirit.
• Have always given equal opportunities to my teammates for performing there level best.
• Have always supported my teammates from behind.
• Guided them with utmost sincerity.
• Always kept my team motivated for doing there best.
• Provided ample no. Of chances to my teammates for proving themselves.
2. How did you rise up to your position and how can a student aspiring the same, approach it?
I started my Journey 3 years back when I entered into my college life. I always wanted to stand out of the crowd and do best for myself. So here I got a chance to prove myself. Got into the society by performing all task assigned to me, cleared my interview round and I was there in the society. I had always given my 100% to whatever work I was given be it drafting an event or conducting an event or be it addressing to my audience.
I had worked with all my sincerity and gave my best shot. There were a lot of barriers in my Journey to becoming Event Management Head. Patience and patience was the only key I used. I knew my goals to reach to that post, and I made it somehow. I believed I am not less than the other person.
I knew in my mind I have all the qualities and capabilities to be one. One aspiring to become an event management head, I would suggest that be patient and give your best. Don't ever think that you are less than the other person or you don't have the qualities to be a leader/head. Never underestimate yourself.
3. What's it like to juggle between a leadership role and normal college life?
Wellbeing, a leader/ head in college one, gets popular among classmates or fellow college mates and of course between the teachers. But I never made an extra effort to do so. I kept my leadership work separated from my normal college life.
I had balanced them both in a very effective way. In my opinion, one should never combine their leadership life with normal college life. Living
both roles is what I did. Never forget that living that normal college life is for what you were waiting after your 12th exam or should I say after your admission got final. Normal college life is filled with fun and exciting things.
4. What have been some of your biggest challenges and learnings from what you do?
Biggest challenges were how to take my team to the next milestone. Everyone had different ways of putting up one idea, and considering all those and keeping all the members happy was one big task. It was not easy to make my team come one conclusion.
It was very tough because each person wanted his/her way to be implied or to be considered. Making the final decisions were very tough. Somehow convincing the team was a big task. But somehow, I did.
Learning from what I do were time management, dealing with different mindsets of people, patience.
5. Do you enjoy the kind of influence you hold at such a young age?
I am glad I did this at such a young age. Because handling it at this age where one thinks of enjoying his/her life is a huge thing. One needs to think from all the aspects of his/her team. I know the feeling when teammates come up to me and say you have got such high confidence, you have such a bold personality.
Getting the work done and helping the team doing it has a huge difference. I was never a leader where I used to order to my team. I was always there with them helping them out to do it, and we used to do it collectively. Teammates have always praised for my work. It gives me immense pleasure to be a leader at this young age.
6. How do your parent's look at you participating in extracurricular activities?
I am the lucky one who has got the support of my entire family for participating in extracurricular activities. On my election day, my family celebrated it because, for me, it was the step to be a leader. On all my days, my family has always supported me. Never felt that I don't have the support of my family. They were still there to help me and cheer me up.
My family never denied me for not participating in extracurricular activities. The day I got my post, my family was happier than anyone. They bought a cake which said congratulations for being the event management head. I was wondering if it was real, and yes it was. Seeing my family's support was one of the biggest things in my Journey from an ordinary college life student to a leadership college life student.
7. What are your career goals and how is what you are doing going to help you with that?
My career job is as simple as one could think of, i.e. Teaching. I want to be a professor and reach out to as many students as possible and give them the education they want. Quality education is what I want to give to each student. Through my entire The Journey of leadership I have learned a lot.
Gathering confidence to speak in public or to address an audience of more than 100 students. Time management has played a very crucial role here. Managing the timing well is what I will need in my future, of course, confidence also. Got excellent orientation skills which I need them in future.
8.What are the top skills that you have learnt?
• Time management
• Team spirit
• Confidence
• Stress management
• More responsible
• Public speaking
• Team management
