“Yoga takes you into the present moment, the only place where life exists.” – Patanjali

The word ‘Yoga’ originates from the root word ‘to yoke’ or ‘to join’. It is all about connecting or joining the disparate aspects of your mind and body to be a strong being.

It is one of the greatest treasures of the Indian culture and a divine practice that empowers you to live a meaningful life. It is an embodiment of virtues such as spiritual awareness, contemplation, meditation, and relaxation.

With the ever-growing stress due to the current times taking a toll on our health, it is important to take out time, de-stress and lead our path towards a holistic approach.

So, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, let us all pledge to create harmony in our body by adopting the sacred practice of Yoga and strengthen ourselves towards divinity.

The beauty of Yoga is such that it is for everyone. All it takes is for you to consistently follow the practice and listen to your body every day.

Now you must be wondering about finding time in your hectic schedule. Don’t worry. Try these simple yoga poses daily to stay fit and cultivate a sense of stability in your mind.

1. Child’s Pose

This is a wonderful pose that alleviates stress by rejuvenating the body and mind. It is easy to practice and has numerous benefits such as opening up the hips, lengthening the spine, stretching the shoulders, energizing the muscles. While some advanced yoga poses are extremely demanding and require a lot of strength, this is a restorative pose that gives you the perfect chance to quietly relax.

2. Cat and Cow Pose

It is a combination of two movements that gently enable your spine to warm up and stretch. This simple practice has the power to improve blood circulation and relieve back pain when followed regularly. It improves physical coordination between the organs while actively stimulating muscle strength.

3. Bridge Pose

Back pain is a common problem that many of us face due to long work hours and physical discomfort. The Bridge Pose essentially stretches the back, spine, and neck, improves digestion, helps soothe menstrual pain and calms the brain. It is a preparatory pose for other advanced yoga asanas and has a lot of scientific benefits.

4. Downward Facing Dog Pose

This pose may seem challenging when you attempt it for the first time. However, practicing this asana regularly enhances the flow of blood through your spine, neck, and back. It is a mild inversion pose that helps you build strong arms and is critical in elongating your back. Adding it to your regular fitness routine is extremely beneficial especially for people who are hunched over a desk all day.

5. Tree pose

Analogous to its name, this posture represents the elegant stance of the tree firmly perched on the ground with the roots beneath it. It is an invigorating pose that boosts your concentration and stability by making you steadily focus on one gaze. Besides, it also builds a foundation for other balances and helps you move smoothly from one pose to another.

6. Chair pose

Sitting in an imaginary chair is what this pose depicts. It is an excellent pose to develop overall endurance in the body and tone your calves or thighs if done correctly. The Chair Pose is an essential component of Sun Salutations but it can also be practiced on its own to build your stamina

7. Triangle Pose

It is a quintessential standing pose followed by many yoga practitioners during their session. The Triangle Pose requires your eyes to be open in order to maintain the balance of the body. It stretches and opens the knees, ankles, legs, arms, and chest while also improving digestion. The twisting action also acts as a massage to internal organs.

8. Cobra Pose

This particular pose is an energizing back-bend that resembles a serpent raising its hood. It is best known for its ability to increase the flexibility of the spine. It is also therapeutic for asthma as this posture helps to open the lungs. The Cobra pose has immense health benefits if practiced consistently and is an essential part of the Sun Salutations sequence.

9. Forward Bend

As the name suggests, this pose requires you to bend in a seated or standing position and is influential in combating exhaustion during the practice as it helps release the hips, hamstrings, calves, cervical spine while preparing for the next asana. A forward fold also calms the mind by reducing anxiety.

10. Corpse Pose

This definitely has to be one of the most loved and sincerely followed postures. It is like a detachment from millions of thoughts for a few minutes after an intense work out session. Lying quietly on the yoga mat helps you to press pause and heal all your wounds.

The idea behind this asana is not to take a short nap but to bring awareness in your conscience. The exhilarating aspects of the corpse pose equip you with the readiness and energy to deal with life’s complex situations.

Caution: It is advisable to follow these yoga poses under the guidance of a suitable professional while using the right technique. One must refrain from practicing in case of any serious health problems or physical discomfort.
