Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science, and one of the main pillars of the technology industry. In the present era, the term artificial intelligence can be defined as the ability of digital machines and computers to perform tasks similar to intelligent people. Such as the ability to think or learn from previous experiences or other processes that require mental processes.

History of A.I

The emergence of the term artificial intelligence dates back to the fifties of the twentieth century, and specifically in the year 1950. when the scientist Alan Turing introduced what is known as the Turing Test, which is concerned with assessing computer intelligence and classifying it Smart if It can mimic the human mind.

One year after the Turing test appeared, the first program using artificial intelligence was created by Christopher Strachey, who was head of programming research at Oxford University, as he was able to run checkers via a computer and develop them, then Anthony Oettinger from Cambridge University designed a computer simulation experiment for the human shopping process in more than one store.

This simulation aimed at Measuring the computer’s ability to learn and this was the first successful experiment with what is known as machine learning.

The concept of artificial intelligence was officially announced in 1956 at Dartmouth College, but no progress was made for about twenty years, and this may be due to the limited computer capabilities that were available at that time.

In 1979 the Stanford Vehicle was built, which is the first vehicle driven by a computer, and in 1997 the first computer was able to overcome a human competitor in the game of chess, and the pace of acceleration in artificial intelligence began at the beginning of the twenty-first century as interactive robots became available in stores.

The matter went beyond that so that there would be a robot that interacts with different feelings through facial expressions, and other Robots that have become difficult missions such as the Nomad robot, which carries out the task of searching and exploring remote places in the Antarctic, determines the location of meteors in the region.

A.I applications

There are many practical applications of artificial intelligence and the famous applications are:

  • Games: Artificial intelligence systems are used in many electronic games; That requires a dimension and strategic thinking, such as poker and chess, for example.
  • Interacting with the visual system: Some applications of artificial intelligence can interpret and analyze the images entered into them. Such as facial recognition software, image analysis for positioning, and other similar applications.
  • Interacting with handwriting: This is through applications for recognizing handwriting, whether it is writing on paper or on the screen of the device itself.
  • Intelligent robots: Robots do a lot of different actions, as they can do the work that humans do, because of their ability to feel the surrounding factors such as light, heat, sound, or movement, through special sensors, and these robots can learn from their past experiences and benefit of errors.
  • Interacting with the spoken voice: Some artificial intelligence systems can be used to listen to speech and understand its meanings, even if it is pronounced with some noise or pronounced in colloquial or street language.
  • Provide advice and guidance: Some applications of artificial intelligence can provide advice and advice to human users in specific areas, such as the medical field, for example, by analyzing the symptoms of a disease to access the disease and treat it, for example.

Advantages of Artificial Intelligence -

There are many advantages and benefits of using artificial intelligence, and some examples of them are -

  • Permanent work: This is through the ability of machines to work continuously without feeling tired or bored, and their ability to produce constantly without looking at the time or circumstances surrounding the work.
  • Applications that are important for daily life: Artificial intelligence provides many applications that have become important for the daily life of man, and the smartphone and its various smart systems, such as GPS, is one of the most prominent examples of the human need for different applications of artificial intelligence.
  • Using artificial intelligence to provide services: Many of the major institutions have relied on artificial intelligence systems to provide services to their clients instead of the traditional employee.
  • Providing medical care: There are many systems of artificial intelligence that provide medical care to humans, through surgical simulators, or those applications that help to detect neurological disorders or that allow the patient to know the side effects of medications, and it must be mentioned applications of radiosurgery That helped to remove tumors without damaging the surrounding healthy tissues.
  • The ability to process massive amounts of data: Artificial intelligence systems can handle massive amounts of data, storage, and processing.
  • Accuracy and reduce the margin of error: The human use of artificial intelligence systems contributes to reducing the percentage of errors that may occur during the implementation of tasks, except for the great accuracy in performing these tasks.
  • Doing hard work: Artificial intelligence systems can do things that humans may be unable to perform, such as excavations and exploring hard-to-reach places like the ocean bottom.

Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence

Many negative aspects result from the use of artificial intelligence, including the following -

  • The high cost of using, updating, and maintaining artificial intelligence systems.
  • The lack of awareness of artificial intelligence systems of ethics and human values, as these systems, cannot make appropriate judgments, as they are only concerned with the implementation of what they were designed for without looking at what is right and wrong in carrying out the tasks.
  • The inability of artificial intelligence systems to change its system of work and develop it if it receives the same data every time, and this may make it useless at a certain stage. Artificial intelligence systems lacked a response to conditions.
  • The lack of artificial intelligence systems to respond to the conditions and changes that may occur in the work environment, and their inability to creativity and innovation as the human capacity to do so.
  • Many workers and employees are laid off as a result of using and relying on artificial intelligence systems instead of humans.

The future of Artificial Intelligence

Scientists and researchers are working to develop future artificial intelligence in a form that is highly beneficial to it and in various aspects of life; From smartphones to cars, or even smart home systems.
