1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Hey, I’m Gurleen Bedi from Delhi. Food is something I’ve always been very fond of, not just eating, but, cooking as well. Ever since I was in school, I used to watch all those TV shows about food on TLC, etc, and used to be so amazed at how one can create such beautiful food.

Anyway, starting a food blog was a random yet one of the best decisions I’ve ever taken. It’s is something I love to do, be it exploring street food, going to high end restaurants, or just even cooking, I love all of it, and sharing all this on Instagram, I love the response I get from my audience.

2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

My page is all about “Food. Honestly, I never had the confidence that I could so such a thing, but things did work out for me. I started my food page (@whaaatislife) very randomly.

I was pretty active on Snapchat and used to put up stories of food with the caption "What is life?". One day I asked a friend to come along to try out a particular dish and she asked, Is this for you "What is Life series?".

This got me thinking that this could be an actual thing. I had no second thoughts and I created a page on Instagram and hence the name, whaaatislife!

3. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

Theoretically, a blogger is someone who has a blog, a website or a webpage. An influencer does not necessarily need to have his/her own website. Rather, they can create their page on any of the social media platforms and post the content they like.

Nowadays, influencers are gaining more popularity because people are active on social media, and posting there engages people more.

4. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

Honestly, being an influencer seems very easy from far way but there is a hell lot of hard work involved. And influencers earn through brand collaborations.

In such a vast pool, you really need to grow and stand out to get these collaborations. Once you reach a stage where you are regularly getting brand collaborations, then only it is financially sustainable to be an influencer.

5. What do you think influences consumer behavior?

I strongly feel people are affected by the people they like, be it celebrities, influencers, friends, or family.

6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

My idea of success in life is simple. Work hard, enjoy the journey, and be humble.

7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

According to me, you have to actually love what you’re doing to be a successful social media influencer. If you’re in it just for the money, you won’t go a long way. Actually loving the process of creating content is what keeps me going. So, do what you love and be as active as you can.
