I Aim To Create Content With Minimalism - Namrata Raha

1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.

I am Namrata and I consolidate my creative work related to affordable and sustainable home décor under the umbrella of 9byNamrata on Instagram.

I started this journey of blogging in late 2017 after having worked with non-profits as a communication specialist for a decade. My first year was challenging and after that, it has been an exciting and eventful journey.

2. How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?

I think it was sometime in late 2016, that I began exploring Instagram and was fascinated by the power of visual storytelling it had in offer. Gradually I got interested and then after I quit my full-time job, I took up my passion for home décor, art, and crafts and started sharing them on Instagram.

I am glad that people loved them and after my first year, I had about 10K followers and that swelled to a family of 45K by the end of my second year of active blogging in August 2020.

3. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?

Given my experiences so far, I am more inclined to say a ‘no’ at this point of time. I think it takes years of hard work and hundreds of thousands of followers before it becomes financially rewarding enough.

4. Who is your favorite creator and why?

It's difficult to pick one. I keep my mindset of a hungry student open and keep learning from many creators.

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

The bottom line is - I love to create content. To be honest, being trained as a communication’s person, storytelling comes naturally to me and home decor is an area of interest for me.

So, I think all of that works in favor and irrespective of the appreciation or financial rewards it may or may not bring, I keep creating content with minimalism. My style is to keep it simple and relatable.

6. What does your typical day look like?

I generally try to finish my morning chores by 11 am and start my work by 11:30 am. There is a lunch break but otherwise, I try to wrap up my styling, shoot, postings related work by 5:30-6 pm.

It’s after dinner when I generally do my editing because I am a night person and am able to focus better at night. But no day ends without thanking the almighty for this beautiful life.

7. What is your favorite book?

I am not very fond of reading.

8. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

It’s not advice but from my experience, I can tell that it’s important to find out what you love doing and then experiment around that. When you love what you do, then everything seems seamless.

And yes, there will be moments of negativity, but the idea is to sail through them without getting deeply affected. Positive thinking can be a great wellness capsule!
