Insights on Instagram by an Influencer: Sonal Arora

What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
I always have loved to express through social media since much before  IG was even invented. I established my first blog in 2008 and discovered Instagram in 2013 and got hooked to it, and in few months reached a huge audience. It was very motivating to be consistent.
I started traveling quite often from 2014 onwards and that's also what my insta-blog became about. I pen down my honest thoughts on my page. I am completely Myself on Instagram through my anecdotes on Style tips, my love for travel, and my personal thoughts about life. It's mostly out there.

How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
The term 'Blogger' has the word 'Blog' in it. One must have a valid webpage where one shares their thoughts to be called a Blogger.
On the other hand,
An 'influencer' can be anyone who the audience relates to, It can be anyone; be it a blogger, an actor, a sportsman, an entrepreneur, A regular girl next door who tweets fantastically.
Precisely, A Role Model; who influences his/her audience towards a certain behavior is an influencer.

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
Initially, NOT AT ALL.  One needs to be consistent in creating valuable content and have a backup plan.
If you can have that relationship with your audience and if your viewers understand you, you're more likely to collaborate with the brands you want to work with.
There are weeks you get nothing and there are some when you have to work for 25 products a day. And there are also days when you don't relate to the brand and you say NO.
It's been a roller coaster ride for me but I am super grateful for my journey. It's a dream come true.

What do you think influences consumer behavior?
Good visual presentation and relatability evoke a need or an eager desire in people's minds.
Recently few of my male friends bought a certain brand of shoes because Akshay Kumar wore those in his recent movie.

Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.
I couldn't be happier. If you look at the larger picture, It's going to save a lot of drama and unnecessary competition through this initiative. This number of game plague needs to die now.
The No-Like initiative shall lead Instagrammers to focus more on their content quality.
Brands would choose their representative by their content and not just the numbers. Those 'numbers' don't have a lot to do with anything related to the purchasing behavior if the target audience isn't included within them.

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
My idea of success is striking a Balance. I want to keep doing what I love and be loved for that.
My priority is not just earning a huge amount of money but also earning hearts with my perseverance and honesty.
I have miles to go before I sleep, and before I hit the bed each night, it should with a smile on my face and a heart full of gratitude.

I am a one-woman-army who wasn't born with a silver spoon.
A content creator, a blogger with a blog name 'Her Lavish Hustle'. I am also a language Trainer by the day and recently started a 'Food Take away' chain in Delhi with my savings.
I also anchored a show last year and have spoken publicly about my beliefs and my journey 'from scratch to lavish' on a lot of platforms.
All of that with no legacy whatsoever.
