Insights on Instagram by an Influencer: Ivneet Togar

What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
Since my college days, I have been very fond of posing, styling my outfits, clicking pictures, and posting on my social media handles. After graduating in 2015, I began earning my bread and butter from a core job, and at that time, blogging/influencing was just a new thing in India. Following this, I did a bit of research about this and came across certain profiles of bloggers/influencers who were already doing good in this field. Slowly and steadily, I began working on my blog and eventually it became my passion and I started writing fashion related blogs on WordPress and eventually came up with the idea of my blog “The Turbaned Sikh”.
The only idea behind this idea was to showcase the world that the turbans are sexy and we can rock it with every outfit we carry, be it formals, casuals, or street style.
How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
Blogger is the one who blogs on blogging platforms like WordPress, Blogspot or possibly has its own blog site. An influencer is someone who is influential online on various platforms such as Youtube/Facebook/ Instagram.
Some bloggers are influencers too as in, either through the sheer scale of their reach or that they focus on their expertise and personality more than sharing news or other content provided to them.

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
Yes, it is but you have to be very patient and have to invest time, money, and yourself. During the initial days, you may not be paid handsome cheques in big amounts as brands do barter collaborations until you have a pretty decent amount of followers or engagement. But once you gain certain popularity and your content is solid and unique, you do get paid collaborations. But still, I personally feel this field is not as stable as it looks in terms of income. We can gain popularity and stardom from our social media handles but don’t expect it to be financially stable during your initials days.
What do you think influences consumer behavior?
In my opinion, it actually depends upon how well you are connected with your followers and how well are you able to influence them. In the fashion and lifestyle genre of influencing, it is all about what exactly the brand specializes in and how an influencer can portray the brand to its audience in its own style or way so that it is mutually beneficial for the consumer, influencer, as well as the brand.
Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.

I feel that the obsession with likes often takes away from meaningful stories and conversations. This change will prompt the influencers/bloggers to engage more with their followers and they will be focusing more on the description. Instagram content will become a cross of micro-blogging and photography now.
What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
“Believe in yourself first to make others believe in you.” It is very important to have self-confidence within yourself to make others believe in you.
