If you would have to introduce yourself in a gist, what all will you include about yourself?
My name is Palak Kapoor. Currently pursuing a Masters in History from Delhi University. I am passionate about food and travel and is a firm believer in doing what one loves.
What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
I started whatsupdilli for fun when I was in the first year at Hindu College and needed a creative outlet! I always loved food and finding new restaurants, so it just made sense to start taking photos and document what I was doing. The account was originally meant to be a place where family and friends could follow me. Slowly, people started following my work and I was able to build a small community of food-lovers. Started to receive emails from restaurants who invited me to taste their food and review it on my Instagram.
How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
People keep shuffling these words, and in today's world, it's hard to bifurcate. Most of us in the community have been living in this misconception that blogging and influencing are the same. No, they are two completely different things. A blogger is someone who has a blog, who writes a complete review of a particular thing or a place. An Influencer is someone who has a very strong social presence and can influence people with their ideas or in marketing products.
Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
Well, it completely depends on you, how seriously you take your profession. As they say, if you’re good at something, never do it for free. There’s a lot of efforts that go into creating content, brands have actually started to recognize it over the years, they have a fixed and good budget for influencers and they’re ready to pay for quality content, good engagement, and audience. So yes if you work hard on your content, it is financially sustainable.
What do you think influences consumer behavior?
In my personal opinion, it’s a trust! The most crucial part of being an influencer is giving honest reviews of the products/places because consumers will often purchase products or will visit those places they’ve been recommended by the people they have a certain level of trust with.
Your opinion on Instagram contemplating removing likes option for posts.
I feel it would be difficult for content creators like us because if Instagram does away with likes altogether, it will be difficult for a brand to partner with influencers. After all, when considering an influencer for a campaign, the number of likes is one of the first things brands look at, along with the content, quality of comments, and follower number.
What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
I believe if you work hard and stay dedicated to your work, you can achieve anything you want.
