What does Recognition mean?

We often use this in every aspect of our lives. If we just google it to know the meaning of it, it will show a myriad of meanings but the following came into our understanding.

• Identification of someone or something or person from previous encounters or knowledge.

• Acknowledgement of the existence, validity, or legality of something.

As per the article, our lives are categorized into four stages. So, we are going to learn the play of recognition in each stage -

Stage One: Mimicry

We are born helpless. We can’t walk, can’t talk, can’t feed ourselves, and can’t even do our damn taxes.

Stage Two: Self-Discovery

In Stage One, we are recognized by the people and culture around us. Stage two is more about self-discovery.

Stage Two requires us to begin making decisions for ourselves, to test ourselves, and to understand ourselves and what makes us unique. It is for everyone.

Family Recognition becomes much more important than self-recognition. At this stage, we try to make decisions ourselves but the result can change our rights to take our own decisions.

At this stage, we can bring the newer talents in some way like a sense of humor, art or any act.

Jack Dixon said “If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.”

But the results can make a difference now.
This stage mainly passes in the teenage years.

Stage Three: Commitment

If we are not recognized by our work, either it's something we lack at or something as minute as negligence.

Stage Four: Legacy

Everyone wants recognition in every aspect of their life, work, and society. As social media became a part of ourselves, we often run for the things which we are not part of. Recognition has another name, Popularity, or fame. Every human being runs behind it in the whole life cycle. It's not harmful for us until we know how to balance this cycle and maintain our integrity.

At this stage, we discover the credibility of life and take responsibility for it. We will recognize our family, friends who are real and who are reel. We have the moral encompass to establish the difference between right and wrong.

We are mainly recognized by our achievements.

Employee Recognition can be considered as Social Recognition. But it will be recognized in stage four.

Coming to employee recognition, it's our hard work and efforts that will define ourselves in the organization or in society.

It depends on how interactive and confident about the work you are. We have to stabilize our mental health or else it leads to many disasters.

This stage travels from mid-20’s to mid-30’s.

People arrive into Stage Four having spent somewhere around half a century investing themselves in what they believed was meaningful and important.

At this stage, many people cross their retirement age and they become the responsible and role model in their family. The leadership qualities can be seen in many families and mainly in the village atmosphere.

Social Recognition: Even after the retirement stage, everyone runs for social recognition. Nowadays, it has become part of everyone. Even if death is not recognizable, it may make the soul unhappy.

This is what life cycle means. It starts when we are born but it might not end at our death, the family or society takes their legacy forward.

Conclusion:

• Appreciation or acclaim for an achievement, service, or ability.
To explain it further, I took the reference and a few points from Mark Manson’s Four stages of life.

From childhood, our actions and appearance will make us recognizable. True facts are like sometimes we are recognized through different things like gender, race, color, size. We are also recognized by society through our parental values.
