Chai - Is It Good or Bad?

No matter what, everything in this creation has its own pros and cons. The same comes with Chai or Tea. Chai is a sweet and spicy tea renowned for its fragrant smell. It is made from a combination of black tea, ginger, and other spices. The most popular spices include cardamom, fennel, cinnamon, black pepper, peppercorns, and cloves. There are many other concoctions available according to your taste. Let me first tell you the merits and go for demerits later.

Unlike regular tea brewed with water, Chai is made of milk and water (of course, warm). You can also sweeten it according to your taste. This can be linked with various health benefits.

1. Improves Digestion

As ginger is added to Chai, it improves digestion by improving circulation and delivering oxygen to organs so they can perform well. Cinnamon, cloves, black pepper possesses antibacterial properties that prevent digestive problems caused by bacterial infections. With a good digestive system, you can avoid severe problems like iron deficiency, liver disease, and bowel syndrome.

2. Supports Your Immune System

Cardamom is a staple of Tibetan medicine as it has Vitamin-C and nutrients which keeps your immune system healthy. So, make sure that your tea bag or concoction contains green or black cardamom. Green cardamom gives you vibrant and balanced taste whereas black one gives a smoky taste. Both of them have anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties that help to fight common cold, fungus, and bacteria. So, if you are looking to build your immune system have a cup of Chai every day.

3. Improves Heart Rate

Cinnamon helps to lower bad cholesterol. It also reduces blood pressure. Drinking Chai tea (with ginger) can help to regulate sugar levels. To get more benefits, try preparing tea with your scratch so that you can add spices according to your necessity. Because you may find it difficult to add all these spices in your diet regularly, but with a cup of Chai, it becomes simpler.

4. Reduces Aches

The spices found in Chai can help to reduce common aches and pains and may even help people with arthritis. Ginger root can reduce inflammation, which can ease pains ranging from a minor headache to migraine. Cloves are used to treat dental aches. They also ease digestion which also associates with weight reduction, gives you beautiful skin, and regulates blood sugar levels.

After knowing the benefits, before running to your kitchen to consume mugs and mugs of tea, just get to know the cons if you get addicted to this beauty. Keep in mind these side effects before you consume the third cup of your Chai for the day.

Sleep Disorder

Sadly, Chai tea contains caffeine which increases adrenaline production. Caffeine can reduce the amount of sleep you enjoy. The effects of caffeine can occur when you consume earlier in the afternoon or evening. This effect can be stronger in adults.

May Cause Nutrient Deficiencies

Excess consumption of Chai tea may hinder the absorption of essential nutrients like iron by the body. As mentioned earlier, Chai contains caffeine; it can cause nutrient depletion of vital nutrients like vitamin b6 and interfere with nutrient absorption of essential minerals like Calcium, Magnesium, and B vitamins.

Increased Stress, Anxiety, and Restlessness

Over-consumption of Chai tea may contribute to feelings of anxiety, stress, and restlessness. If you notice tea is making you jittery, anxious, or nervous, it could be a sign you have had too much and may want to cut back to reduce symptoms.

Possibility of Miscarriage

Exposure to high levels of caffeine during pregnancy may increase your risk of complications such as miscarriage (harm development of the fetus) and low infant birth weight. If you are pregnant and concerned about your caffeine intake, be sure to take guidance from your doctor.

Anything which is consumed in large amounts will have its repercussions. See that tea consumption should not become your addiction. If consumed freshly in moderate quantity tea could help you in various ways. Accepting the fact that every coin has two sides, look at the benefits and consume in the necessary quantity. Let your love for Chai tea not dig your pit to ill health.
