Food Is Our Common Ground, a Universal Experience - Suman and Ilona Das

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

We are SUMAN DAS and ILONA DAS. We are Kolkata based food bloggers. We both are college students. We started our journey 6 months back on FEBRUARY 24th 2020. We started with full enthusiasm and wish to continue this to make a bright future in this field of Food blogging. We started it as our passion and we would like to take this as our profession in our coming future.

2. What led you to do food blogging?

Blogging is one field where you can follow your never-ending passion for food, travel, photography, or any field of expertise with no one telling you what’s right or wrong. You are your own boss and you are responsible for your own mistakes. We both are a very big foodie and we believe that - "Food is our common ground, a universal experience".

Every time we got wandering the streets of Kolkata, we try out different foods including street food or any restaurants or cafes. We always wanted to start our own food blog where we would show the tastiest, droolicious food items from the streets of Kolkata. We intend to start our own YouTube channel soon.

We are planning to open our own restaurant and this blog would incredibly help us to reach out to our customers and to grow trust in them about us. Due to this lockdown period, we are cooking different droolicious dishes and to our utmost surprise, people are encouraging and supporting us.

3. What does your typical day look like?

You are probably thinking now, “Wait, what? What could a food blogger possibly be doing besides binge eating all day?” Well, this statement is only half true. Yes, as a food blogger, there is definitely a lot of eating involved. However, there is actually so much more that goes on behind the scene - from busily routing out all the spots to visit on Google map, to make a reservation for the window seats.

So here it is, the glamorous or not so glamorous truth of what a typical day of a food blogger is like.

4. When did you first decide that you wanted to create and write content about food i.e. for blogging?

Every time we eat we click pictures. We never thought of it so seriously about starting it someday. One day while eating we just created an account on Instagram without posting any pictures. Day after that we started talking about it, we started thinking of the name of our blog and started making plans. And thus, on February 24th we finally started our journey and named it "_D.R.O.O.L_".

5. Is there a dish you particularly associate yourself with?

We particularly associate ourselves with BIRIYANI - mixed with so many different items and yet sticks to its origin just like us.

6. What is your favourite book and why?

"FOOD KAHINI" by Indrajit Lahiri. Food Kahini- the story of food. We personally have a belief that every food has a story. It rarely happens that we just go and eat something. There are memories associated with the meal- good bad whatever. Even the food items have got stories associated with it.
