I decided to start a podcast with my roommate, Kaley Shannon. She is the most hilarious person in the entire world and is a huge role model for me.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
Hello! My name is Courtney Raine. I grew up in a very small rural town in Pennsylvania. Being in front of the camera is something I always wanted to do. I tried modeling when I was younger but found that being in front of the video camera is much more my style.
2. What kind of content do you create and when did you begin?
I like to say that I am a lifestyle YouTuber. I don't specifically have one type of content that I create and I think that's why I love it so much! On my channel, you will see fun vlogs with my friends, 24-hour challenges, videos where I test out different products, food content, and of course, Starbucks videos.
I started my channel in June of 2015. I really didn't know what I was doing at all. I was just making fun of videos. It wasn't until March of 2019, that I had a few videos blow up. It took my channel from 20k to over 100k subscribers in only a few months.
3. What do you think resonates with your 140+k subs on YouTube?
I just want my channel to be a place where people can escape too. I think what makes my channel stand out is that I'm so honest with my subscribers. I tell them when I'm happy when I'm sad when I'm super stressed.
I'm very open about my faith and my relationship with God, which is something many YouTubers get scared to talk about on a large platform. I really am just an ordinary girl.
I don't like to flex my money or wealth. I drive a 2007 honda civic. *laughs* People want to feel like they can relate to the YouTubers that they watch. I can't relate to the YouTubers that live in mansions and driving around in Lamborghinis, you know?
4. What is the ordinary girl podcast all about?
I decided to start a podcast with my roommate, Kaley Shannon. She is the most hilarious person in the entire world and is a huge role model for me. The podcast is all about 2 ordinary girls just trying to survive in the city of LA.
Although we aren't afraid to get deep into some heavy topics, our favorite podcasts are when we get to share hilarious stories that happened to us.
Our latest podcast is talking about how Kaley just found out she is allergic to cats. She was just having dinner with her boss and all of a sudden her face starts swelling up like a balloon.
While her throat is closing up, THIS GIRL wanted to drive to CVS and get Benadryl. Her boss was like, "uhhhh no.... I think you need to go to the ER!" *laughs* Luckily, everything worked out and we are able to laugh about it now!
5. Who is your favorite creator and why?
I really love Jeanine Amapola! She doesn't post as much as she used too but she is an amazing person inside and out. I hope I get to meet her one day!
6. What is your definition of success?
Hmmm... that's a great question... I would define success as loving what you do, being able to manage it without being stressed all the time, and being financially comfortable. I want to be able to look back on my life and be proud of the content that I create.
7. Which is your favorite book and why?
I actually have a lot of trouble reading. My doctor thinks I'm dyslexic but I've never really taken the test for it. All I know is reading is NOT a skill I was blessed with. *laughs* It takes me 5x longer to read a page than the average person, so I don't read many books.
My favorite quote is "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." I'm not sure who came up with it but I live by this quote! There will always be people more talented than you.
You can't really control that. BUT you can control how hard you work and it really is true. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
