Plunge Into the Tumultuous Ocean of Blogging and Enjoy the Rollercoaster Ride - Sinjana Ghosh

I am a travel blogger, so clearly, travel is the sole inspiration for my content. Journeys inspire me as much as the destination. The history and culture of the places I visit inspire me the most.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I am a full-time business professional in the technology industry with a penchant for writing and travel planning. "Backpack & Explore" is my travel blog. It is a journal of my travel stories and ideas I collected from my experience.

My travel blog has been ranked #22 among the Best Couple Travel blogs in the world by Feedspot. It is also on Rank #20 among the best Backpacking Blogs.
My blogging journey started in July 2018 and it peaked this year with my first travel book published on Amazon!

Yes, I recently wrote the book Postcards from India – India’s hidden gems tell their stories. It is an unconventional anthology of stories from the unexplored hamlets of India. It has been well-received by the audience all over the world and I hope it will help re-boost the tourism industry of India.

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

I completed my MBA from a premier institute in India after completing my B.Tech in Information Technology. With 8 years of experience in the technology industry, I seemed to have achieved all my financial goals by 30. However, I realised that my heart lies in writing and travelling.

Slogging half of the day at work and rest of the day consuming content on digital platforms made me fatigued. I decided to put my free time into creating content, instead of just consuming it. So from the perfect marriage of the two things that I loved to do the most, my travel blog Backpack & Explore came into existence.

3. Who is your favourite blogger and why?

I have many favourites in the genre of travel writing as well as other categories. I love Nomadic Matt, one of the oldest active travel blogs. The detailed travel tips and honest blogs inspire me.

4. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

I am a travel blogger, so clearly, travel is the sole inspiration for my content. Journeys inspire me as much as the destination. The history and culture of the places I visit inspire me the most.

My love for India is also a key driving factor in churning out content related to India. That was also the inspiration for my first book.

5. What does your typical day look like?

I am a part-time blogger. My typical day begins with a cup of tea followed by hours of meeting and analysis. In, between I keep peeping into my blog - sharing posts and engaging with readers. I focus on my blog at night, if time permits, or over the weekends.

I try to write atleast one detailed blog posts every week. However, that’s not always possible, but I manage to write three per month on an average. Sometimes I also participate in some blogging challenges to improve my writing skills and post more regularly.

For example, this month I plan to churn out 8 posts around travel and lifestyle. Let’s see if I can manage that.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri, is my recent favourite. The story is still so fresh in my mind that I often feel like delving into the world of Gogol Ganguly in continuation to the story.

Other favourites include short stories of Tagore, Angels and Demons, and A Tale of Two Cities. I also love to read non-fiction. One such book which left an indelible impact in my mind is “Why am I an Athiest and other works” by Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh is a heroic figure in the history of India’s freedom struggle, who was martyred at the age of 23.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring bloggers?

Blog if you really love to blog. Don't do it just because others are, and don't do it for money. But if you love writing and you are passionate about a topic, don't wait. Plunge into the tumultuous ocean of blogging and enjoy the rollercoaster ride. If you want to make money from blogging you need to treat this as a business, invest in it and focus.
