6 Types of Meditation


Meditation has many types, different ways suitable for different people and their requirements in life. Read on to know more about the types and what would be suitable for you.


Life is in chaos right now. That said and stated out loud would surely occur as one of the most relatable statements present right now. In the present scenario, when our routines, personal lives, relationships, jobs, and mental peace are facing an existential crisis, it has become relatively more important to do something so that we can save the minuscule sanity left at our mind's disposal

.

That's exactly where meditation can be the fire brigade to settle down the fire of disorder in our respective lives. Meditation, typically described can be stated as, "A practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state." 

The benefits of meditation are never obscured from the world. Now, we all know that everything is not meant for everyone. The same applies to meditation as well. Let's have a glance at different types of meditation that you can try to treat exactly your kind of chaos:

1. Mindfulness Meditation: Mindful meditation involves the person being aware of his or her surroundings and thoughts. It allows the practitioner to be observant of the environment, the sounds and actions of different elements around them and build concentration upon it. 

It requires you to be fully present in the present and to just plain observe anything passing through your mind without dwelling on its existence or repercussions. It reduces negative emotions, improves concentration. It reduces emotional impulsive reactions.

2. Breath Awareness Meditation: The breath awareness meditation is meant to be practiced while focusing only on your breath. While practicing this you might need to focus on your breathing, patterns of exhalation and inhalation, the length of your breath etc. In this process, you are fully aware of each breath you take and build concentration upon it. This is also a form of mindful meditation hence effects similarly.  

3. Loving-Kindness Meditation: Loving-Kindness meditation is also known as metta meditation. This meditation aims at developing a loving and kind approach towards everything and everyone. You can send messages of love to anyone, anything, or someone specific. In most cases, the practitioner might repeat the messages again and again until he gets the feeling of love and kindness within himself.

4. Body Scan or Progressive Meditation: Under progressive meditation, the fractional has to identify the areas of tension in his body and release them one by one. It takes place in a phased manner. The fracture has to start from one end, it can be their feet and then progress to other parts of the body. It might involve relaxing and then flexing the body parts or imagining a wave passing through the tense region to release the tension. 

5. Kundalini Yoga: Kundalini yoga is an active physical form of meditation that blends deep breathing, physical movements, and mantras. The use of mantras is prominent teaching in Buddhist and Hindu traditions. Many find it easier to focus on a repeated word like 'om', than their breathing. The Mantra can be chanted aloud or silent but after chanting you experience higher awareness about your surroundings.

The Yoga positions allow relaxation and release of tension while paying attention to the breathing patterns. Meditation helps people with chronic back pain and others found improvement in their energy and had improved mental health.

6. Visualization Meditation: This is one amazing method of meditation. This process involves visualizing calm, peaceful, and positive things or surroundings to feel the eternal sense of peace, relaxation, and serenity.

You just have to close your eyes, play some good relaxing music and imagine yourself in some faraway place and feel all your thoughts proceeding and a calmness taking over that place. Many people use visualization meditation to boost their mood, reduce stress levels, and promote inner peace. It can be used to improve concentration and for decluttering once mind.

We know it's all about finding calm in the chaos but sometimes all you need is peace, mindfulness, self-awareness, and a little reflection of your life. Now that you know about all the types of meditation, it's time you make it a point to meditate daily to bring back the required balance in your life.
