The Valley of Fear by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The valley of fear is the fourth and final novel of the series that features the famous detective – Sherlock Holmes. It is yet another excellent work by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The novel was written in 1914. The author wrote 4 novels and 56 short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes.

‘A study in scarlet’, ‘The sign of the four’, ‘The Hounds of Baskerville’ are the first three novels in line. I recommend that you read them first before reading this. Though the storyline is not connected, the main characters remain the same.

The great mind of the author is shown in his creative way of writing despite the fact that all four novels are based on a single character, every novel is completely different from others.

The novel presents you a case in which Sherlock deals with one of the most interesting cases. The case is so beautifully intertwined in itself, it gives the thrill to see how the mystery is unraveled one after another, and needless to say, the novel shows the cleverness and wittiness of Sherlock Holmes.

This novel has everything that one could ask for – a secret society, coded messages, a beautiful manor, and a missing dumbbell. Everything just fills you with excitement and the want to know more soon.

I just loved the novel and I liked the character of McMurdo, he has so many shades, and his behavior so unexpected and very interesting to read. This is refreshing to see that the author is just not only interested in Sherlock Holmes but also writes the other character with so many layers to them.

It is indeed one of the best crime fiction novels. I will suggest everyone read this book. If you like reading mystery novels and this novel is a catch and you just cannot miss to read it. I am sure every age group can enjoy it to the fullest. I strongly recommend you to read it.
