List of Animal Welfare Organisations


 

Mother earth gives shelter to numerous creatures and the welfare of all of them is important. Majorly the health and well-being of humans are focused. People don’t realize that the welfare of animals is equally important and must be addressed. 

There are many animals that need aid and some organizations lend their hand in assistance to animals. The organizations that are concerned with the health, safety and physiological wellness of individual animals are called Animal Welfare Organisations. 

Animal Welfare Board Of India

The Animal Welfare Board of India is a statutory advisory body on Animal Welfare Laws and promotes animal welfare in the country. It was established in 1962 under Section 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (No. 59 of 1960), the Animal Welfare Board of India was started under the stewardship of Late Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, a well known humanitarian. 

AWBI has various roles and functions like to grant financial assistance to establish rescue homes, animal shelters, sanctuaries where animals and birds find their shelter when they become old and useless. They cooperate with, and coordinate the work of associations or bodies established for the purpose of preventing unnecessary pain or suffering to animals or for the protection of animals and birds. 

Their task is to advise the Government on any matter connected with animal welfare or the Prevention of infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering on animals, and improvements in the design of vehicles so as to lessen the burden on draught animals and many more. People For Animals

People For Animals is one of the largest animal welfare organizations which is also called People for Animals in India which was established in 1992 by Smt. Menaka Sanjay Gandhi, the current chairperson of PFA. It is a non-governmental and non-profitable organization. PFA organizations work with other welfare organizations.

Blue Cross of India

The Blue Cross of India (BCI) is an animal welfare charity based in Chennai, India. It was established in 1959 by Captain V. Sundaram, his wife Usha, and their three children, in Chennai. The society was formally registered in 1964 under the Societies Registration Act. It is now one of the country's largest animal welfare organizations. 


It runs several animal welfare programs including animal rights awareness. The non-medical division of the organization is looked after by volunteers. The organization has received several national and international awards.

Blue Cross performs activities namely medical waste disposal, shelters, rehoming, adoption, hospitals, mobile dispensary, ambulance services, and other activities.

Blue Cross of Hyderabad

Blue Cross of Hyderabad is a non-profit registered society which was established in 1992. It was recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India. It was founded by Amala Akkineni who is currently its chairman. Blue Cross-training facilitates pet care, first aid, and Animal Birth Control. The prime focus of the organization shifted to spread animal welfare awareness and training along with stray animal birth control and to reduce animal suffering exponentially.

Regular training programs are conducted by qualified and certified veterinary doctors.  Appreciated and sought after by vets, students, animal welfare groups, and volunteers from across the Telugu speaking states, the training center is a valuable addition to their services. 

These are the organizations that are helping animals for their wellness. One need not show their love by only donating but can help by giving shelter to stray animals in need. Just lending aid to the voiceless creatures when injured is the best gift one can give to an animal.
