We are all created differently and we all are created equally. We all live and raise up in the same way and one day we all will die. This is constant but what happens in between is I think ego, power and the concept that 'I need to rule over you' and this concept comes into play too much especially in society. This is something that I want to break and I think that I have also successfully started to break it.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I am a Canadian. I am basically half Punjabi and half Assamese by birth. I lived in Dubai and I later went to Canada and came back to India only when I was 23. I have been here ever since trying to get into the film industry and the advertising industry.
Its been quite a difficult path because I always think that I need to fit certain standards but now I believe that I am the standard and therefore things are opening up in a very beautiful way for me and of course with the love everybody have given me.
The love that everybody gave as I said was a self learning journey where I was trying to love myself and everyone around me and stopped criticizing and judging anybody for who they are, what they are, what they choose to do to their own bodies and their own self.
This is one thing I think the personal choice that no one has the right to discuss or say anything regarding their thoughts. No one else has the authority to talk or comment about it. It is a very personal thing whether you are an actor or model or anything it does not depend on your body to perform.
Performance is separate and image is separate but who decides this image is my question. Who decides whether this is the right image and this is the wrong image, no one has to do anything with it.
2. What is the #loveeverybody campaign about?
According to that concept, there is no wrong image. There is not a necessity that an actress should be skinny or dark or very fair or applying makeup or not, this is not up to any single individual or society. This is something personal like 'if I'm good at anything then I should get that', it is as simple as that.
For example, If I am representing the city even if I am skinny or dark, I am representing a certain section of society and that section should be represented properly and not in a negative way just because I have weight or dark or not having good assets or whatever it is, that is something that I don't believe in.
3. Why did you start your own venture as a tattoo artist?
We are all created differently and we all are created equally. We all live and raise up in the same way and one day we all will die. This is constant but what happens in between is I think ego, power and the concept that 'I need to rule over you' and this concept comes into play too much especially in society.
This is something that I want to break and I think that I have also successfully started to break it because when people see my photographs in all different costumes and styles they almost get shocked or either get encouraged, the people who are in my body size think that I can also do this and that's exactly the feelings that I have to put on that everybody can do this.
4. What is your opinion about media portrayal of body positivity?
I think as I said the media just chooses to overpower the way society thinks simply because they feel like they will sell a product and that is the excuse that I hear everywhere even with businesses they say when I went plus size I didn't get, yes of course if you go only plus size you wont get business and even if you go only zero size you won't get any business so why don't you include everybody.
I think media is very much apart of non-inclusivity to make one person feel better or to make one person feel worse. Why is the media doing this? The media is supposed to be the watch dogs of the society but it has turned out to be the devil dogs of society.
The people who choose what is right and what is wrong, how does anyone have the right to choose that as long as I am not hurting somebody especially if it is my own body and own perception why is anything wrong?
5. What challenges have you faced in life and how did you overcome it?
I don't want to say that I faced challenges because I know lot of people think and say in many interviews that I have had many bad experiences and so on. Yes, I had that too, I have been molested and I faced many problems personally.
So these are the kind of challenges I faced I suppose and in terms of industry as such but I would like to tell you that these challenges made the way I am and I don't look them as challenges rather I look them as a lesson.
We are living in a life where we have to come to the terms and fact that we are the strongest person for our own life and we don't need to depend on anybody else opinion.
Too many people depend on the opinion of others and therefore they are miserable, if you stop depending on the opinion of others then you are no longer miserable.
6. What is your idea of success in life and what advice would you like to give to your followers?
My idea of success is to be at peace with who you are and first of all to accept that you are a beautiful powerful force in this universe and that you can create anything and the one key element is confidence. I think I have heard Priyanka Chopra say this at one point. I'm not a diehard fan of Priyanka but I listen to words people say which in turn gives knowledge
Don't overthink too much, Do what you believe in as long as you are not hurting anybody and as long as you believe in yourself. That confidence itself will create a magic for you. Love yourself so much no matter what anyone else says and that is what I would like to say to my followers.
