Mrinaal Datt - Blogging Can Be a Lucrative Career That One Can Pursue Full Time (Lifestyle Blogger)

Be authentic. Do not do it for the free stuff. I see many youngsters who pick up blogging as a means to get “free” goodies. Nothing in life is free. You are paying the price with your time and effort which is much more valuable than money. Pursue blogging only if you have something meaningful to share.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

Well, if we want to talk about my background, you’ll have to do another article on it altogether! But I will try to succinctly touch on all important aspects. I am B.Com/LL.B. (Hons.) graduate. I completed my studies in 2019 but have been working ever since my first year of college.

I started out as a content writing intern for various companies and eventually started my own blog towards the end of 2016. Currently, I am working, blogging and have also started my Masters in Law. There's obviously a method to all this madness with proper time management and cooperation of the people around me.

That has made this journey extremely fulfilling- I have done international collaborations and also been featured in Instagram's Creator newsletter. But to say I have done it alone would be a lie. It truly takes a village!

2. When did you decide you wanted to be a blogger?

Honestly, now that I think about it. Blogging seemed like a very natural extension. I have always loved writing about anything and everything. And I loved books. So I started out as a book blogger on Blogger which was a popular tool by Google then.

The response was so good that I had to set up my own blog website within a year and that’s how acolorfulriot.com was born. So I truly started out as a blogger in the actual sense of the word. Instagram, for me, happened much later when I realised it had potential to promote my blogs.

3. Can blogging be a financially stable career?

Certainly, blogging can be a lucrative career that one can pursue full time. But it requires a lot of dedication and learning to say no. And honestly, it isn’t easy in today’s time with so much competition and things constantly changing.

But of course, if you are determined and ready to make the effort, nothing can stop you. And that’s true for every field there is.

4. Who is your favourite blogger and why?

My favourite bloggers keep changing from time to time, depending on the content. But the one blogger I am currently loving is Masoom Minawala. Her content is extremely wholesome, knowledgeable and her smile truly lights up my feed. She truly knows what she is talking about and that is a huge positive.

5. Where does your inspiration lie?

Honestly, my inspiration lies in everyday life. Sometimes the tiniest of things around you can spark the greatest ideas. Though of course, the biggest inspiration comes from the very notion of wanting to create great content that people could relate to.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring bloggers?

Be authentic. Do not do it for the free stuff. I see many youngsters who pick up blogging as a means to get “free” goodies. Nothing in life is free. You are paying the price with your time and effort which is much more valuable than money. Pursue blogging only if you have something meaningful to share.

And of course, stop comparing yourself to what you see on the screen. Followers are not permanent, our smiles are not our constant reality and not everyone looks the same in real life. Remember that.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

I told you I started out as a book blogger, right? It’s like asking a mother who is her favourite child! Honestly, my favourite books and authors keep changing from time to time. But I really enjoy reading books by Jodi Picoult- they’re extremely wholesome and warm your heart in a very non-cliched way. And when I am craving for some legal thriller, I always opt for John Grisham.
