Siblings Marriage in USA - A Hoax?

A post got viral claiming that the Supreme Court of the United States supported and approved the marriage of siblings. The tweet contains an image of the alleged brother and sister celebrating the order from New Jersey.

The Twitter user wrote “The United States Supreme Court has ruled that a brother and a sister can now get married. A New Jersey’s brother and sister have won the right to marry after a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court of USA.”

It was not only viral on Twitter, it was viral on Facebook, Instagram, and all other social media.

Was It True or False?

We found out that the claim was false. And it was the picture of a couple which surfaced all over the internet. It was from the United Kingdom and not the United States.

We just Google reversed the picture and found out that they were not siblings. They were a couple from the United Kingdom. And they both were fighting for a civil partnership case.

A report from BBC assured that the photos which were all over the internet were taken in 2018 after the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom ordered in the favour of Rebecca Steinfeld and Charles Keidan to have a civil partnership instead of marriage.

The couple in the picture had appeared in the Supreme court after their appeal was rejected. Their claim was rejected in the year 2017.

A website World News Daily Report who was the first to upload this article about Siblings getting married came across the US. And when we opened the website it ran a disclaimer that any article can be fictional even those which are also based on real-life people. And any resemblance between them and any person, living, dead, or undead, is purely a miracle.

What Does the Law in New Jersey Say?

Law regarding sexual relations between family members or close relatives in the United States Of America, except in New Jersey and Rhode Island, makes it criminality among two adults. Although incest between two consenting adults is not a crime in New Jersey, But marriage between two is still illegal for them.

The claim was false. And it was falsely viral all over social media. So, before you share something on social media, it is recommended to check the source and hence,  the validity of the news. And in the viral image, they both were a couple, not siblings. And marriage between brothers and sisters is still an illegal thing.
