I am the founder and admin of Indian photography (Instagram handle), mumbaibizarre, and explore thane. We also have a website for Indian photography in which we promote photographers and write blogs and articles about photography.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I was born in Thane, Maharashtra. I belong to a middle-class family. When I was a teenager my dad bought a second-hand analog camera which was only taken out on special occasions to click photographs of the family.
That was the time when interest in photography grew inside me. When I passed my 10th grade my dad gave me a camera phone. I used to click many photos. I started liking photography more. When I went to college I started giving photography more time. At that time
there was no platform to showcase my photos. Then Facebook started its concept of creating pages. I created my own page and named it “Akshay arts and photography work”. Then I created a page on Instagram and named it “MumbaiBizarre” and started getting more recognition. A thing struck me that
whatever work I was doing then was only for Mumbai and I should extend my work, so I created a new page named “Indian Photography” in which I upload photographs from all over India.
This page got the most attraction within a few months. I used to get many emails for collaboration but at that time I was not interested in all this. After I got 2 lakhs followers I decided to work with the brands. I worked with many brands like honor, Samsung, Realme, and Oppo.
I also created a website on my own and started writing articles. At that time I was also working in an international company as an employee. After 2 years of doing the job, I decided to give my full attention to photography.
I dropped my job and never looked back again. I run my Instagram accounts, do branding, and collaborations. I started this on my own but now I have my whole team with me. We work together and grow together.
2. How and when do you realize your passion for photography?
I used to click the pictures of my college friends and upload them on my page. At that time when people praised me, I used to feel very good. That was the time when I knew that I like photography but didn’t know what to do with it.
Then a movie named “Wake up Sid” came. I was highly inspired by that movie and decided to make a Facebook page and name it “Mumbai Bizarre”. Whenever I went to Mumbai I used to click pictures and upload them. This was how the passion for photography grew inside me.
3. What are the important skills that one should have to be a successful photographer?
To be a successful photographer, one should have a different view of looking at things, as “It’s all about the angle”. One should also explore. The more you explore the more stories you will know and with stories come the photographs.
4. What are the various opportunities available for aspiring photographers?
Nowadays there are many opportunities available for aspiring photographers, for example, fashion photographers, wedding photographers, and mobile photographers.
5. Which is your favorite book and why?
My current favorite book is “Rich dad and poor dad”. In this, it is stated that “Don’t work for money, let money work for you”. It encourages us to explore more options on how to make money in order to escape from the rat race.
Basically, it teaches you to understand that you have a choice in life and also that mastering your emotion is necessary when dealing with money.
