Internet of Things (IoT) in short, is embedding various sensors and technologies with internet connectivity. The internet acts as a connection between the tasks to be performed by simultaneously sending and receiving data. IoT has been seen as a buzzword in recent times because of its popularity in day to day chores. Let us quickly look into the fields where IoT is going to revolutionise in near future.
A short note, ‘o’ in IoT is written always in small letter.
1. Farming and Agriculture
The agriculture sector is
the backbone of a country’s economy. The need to integrate IoT with the field
of agriculture is indeed mandatory. To increase productivity and efficiency,
the practice of smart agriculture has to be practised. To revolutionise the
sector of agriculture, many techniques using sensors and actuators should come
into play. Sensors are used to sense important soil parameters such as
temperature, humidity, soil condition etc. Actuators facilitate in implementing
automation.
2. Smart Home Integration
The smart home is the
desire of every individual. The reason why I mean this is, people used to
think of their home when they aren’t around. The smartphones are the saviour
for a one-stop solution for the home needs. Regulating switches of electrical
appliances, managing electric cookware, establishing security-based systems
could be done by a touch-based home automation model.
3. Smart City and Smart Parking
Smart cities mission is
the current goal of the Indian government. The Government of India is trying to
expand the concept of Smart Cities by considering design ideas from various
firms. Smart cities consist of using the concept of IoT in parking management,
integrating devices, public transportation and so on. The design of smart
cities is complicated and costly but the benefits what we get out of it is
noteworthy. Many sensors such as light, magnetic sensors could be employed in
smart parking for the detection and identification of vehicles and to
facilitate ease of parking.
4. Application of IoT in Environment
The pollution in the
environment has led to the greenhouse effect and several environment crises. To
monitor the air quality and level of pollutants, air sensors are employed. The
air sensors will predict the air quality and would give a detail report on the
impact of the surroundings. Temperature and humidity could be reported
periodically as per our convenience.
5. Surveillance Robots
Robots would be our partners with significant tasks in the future. We could also see the presence of robots in essential and repetitive tasks. Specific function Robots will be designed with AI features and would be greatly needed for military applications. Robots could be used for video surveillance and monitoring border concerns.
The need for IoT is growing rapidly and people adapt to it considering its benefits. Be it health care, logistics or any other industry the concept of IoT will revolutionise our lives for sure. To conclude, it is high time to adapt to changes in a good and wise sense.
