Gurleen Pannu - Stand-Up Comedy Is Just a Way of Expressing Your Perspective of Life (Comedian)

Stand-Up Comedian

I love doing stand up and it does take more time then Instagram videos, but overall I just love creating and just making people laugh.

1. How and when did you choose comedy as a career?

I was doing theatre in college and then thought of making some content for Instagram but ended up uploading it on YouTube, then tried making sketches on YouTube for a while then one day my friend said you should try stand-up and I did try it in an open mic, and then the journey started.

2. What type of content do you enjoy producing the most and is the most challenging?

I love doing stand up and it does take more time then Instagram videos, but overall I just love creating and just making people laugh.

3. Do you prefer digital as a medium or do you enjoy doing live gigs more and why?

I think that they both are very different mediums of expressing oneself and can't be compared so I prefer both.

4. People, who are interested in taking up stand-up comedy as a profession, do they need a funny bone or they can develop one?

You just need to know what you want to say and just say it in the funniest way possible. Stand-up comedy is an art form, it's a craft and as you keep doing more of it you keep getting better. It's a skill you keep polishing.

And I think everyone's got a certain perspective about how they experience life, stand-up comedy is just a way of expressing that perspective.

5. How stable is being a stand-up comedian as a profession in India? And what is the future of this profession?

If you are an artist then you are on a journey of a lifetime, so stability comes and goes. But that does not mean that it's not financially lucrative, of course it is you can make more than enough money by doing comedy as you are selling the best medicine in the world i.e. laughter but it takes some time , you got to invest your time and energy first and then expect a return.

And I think comedy has a great future, people love to laugh and we love making people laugh so abhi yeh lamba chalega.

6. What impact do you want to make in this world?

I don't know the impact I will make in this world as it's such a big thing, I just want that if people are investing their time to listen to my jokes or watch my videos I just make them laugh their hearts out.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

Recently I read a book 'As a man thinketh' by James Allen and it was very helpful and gave me a fresh perspective. Highly recommend it.
