Karan Sareen - Pressure to Come-up With New Content Can Do Blunders (Content Creator)

I started content creation in the lockdown. I am a fashion designer and owned a small studio near my place which had to be shut due to the lockdown and everything that was going on. In May we had given up the place and the work stopped.

And I think that became a reason that I just started focusing on this.

Tell us about your background and journey.

I started content creation in the lockdown. I am a fashion designer and owned a small studio near my place which had to be shut due to the lockdown and everything that was going on. In May we had given up the place and the work stopped.

And I think that became a reason that I just started focusing on this. I wasn't planning on doing this full time, I was just making videos for fun. At first, I was maintained just for passing my time in the lockdown. Slowly the things started to get a little serious. I used to make videos earlier but I never really posted them as I didn’t really have time.

So when my work stopped this started happening. Then people started noticing my content here and there. That is how everything started.

Who is your favorite creator and why?

Supriya Joshi (https://www.instagram.com/supaarwoman). That woman just pours out her heart in the content. Sometimes it is really evident that some people follow scripts and that takes a lot of effort.
I do it as well sometimes.

But her content is really like a heartfelt post that comes off very naturally and there is nothing she had to force out because that is who she is as a person and it genuinely comes out like that and never fails to make you laugh.

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

Success is when you're able to make a living out of something and as long as you're passionate about it. I have worked and done businesses and jobs where I was not satisfied or happy, due to that I was never able to see that as something permanent. and if my content makes me feel satisfied and I'm able to make a living out of it that is a success for me.

A decent living and satisfaction with what you do is a success. Success is not only monetary gain but also mental satisfaction. If you are earning on the expense of our mental health I think we are at a much larger loss.

How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Lots of the inspiration for my content is from my daily life, my childhood and the people in my family and how they would react to some situations and how they would act in certain situations.

I also like to take inspiration from Bollywood and tv serials, I like to call out things for example portrayal of gold digger, especially Punjabi songs I think.

Could you talk about the pressure to churn out content regularly?

So there is always a dichotomy between taking your time off to do other stuff, taking care of your mental health and staying relevant on social media. Even if I take two days off, I have this guilty feeling about not posting. And seeing other people being regular you feel pressured.

But sometimes you need to take time off as you might not be able to come up with good content even for a week or a month. The pressure can be serious at times. But mostly it's in your head, it is you who is not letting yourself breathe. That’s our inner saboteur and our insecurities that stresses us out. Giving oneself space is really important.

What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

You need to know who you are and know your experiences. Nobody can make better content than those who are trying to put out their own experiences and things they have gone through.

They say you write about what you know and that is the best writing you do. Be genuine about who you are and what you stand for. Your unique selling point is not who you are trying to be but who you already are.
