Nothing makes a teacher prouder than seeing their students succeed. The satisfaction and joy that you get if you are able to channelize these young minds in the right direction and see them productively employed is immense.

1. Tell us more about your experience as an educator.

As a teacher, we get an opportunity to touch the lives of many students. Nothing makes a teacher prouder than seeing their students succeed. I have been in academics for the past 10 years and have had a very fulfilling experience as an educator.

The best part of this profession is that you are always surrounded by enthusiastic, hopeful, energetic young minds. The satisfaction and joy that you get if you are able to channelize these young minds in the right direction and see them productively employed is immense.

2. What is your opinion of the Indian education system and how would you like to change that?

The Indian Education System is a very rigorous and competitive one. The Competitive attitude lets students unleash their full potential. The exam-oriented culture helps to analyse student’s strengths and weaknesses consistently. The Emphasis on memorizing the facts rather than thoroughly understanding the concepts needs to be addressed.

The curriculum needs to be designed for the wholesome development of the students and emphasis on practical knowledge needs to be increased. Critical thinking needs to be encouraged and relying heavily on marks to assess student’s capabilities needs to change.

3. What changes in the teaching methodologies have you seen in recent times?

The teaching methodologies have undergone a significant change in recent times from Chalk and Board to ICT enabled teaching, from lecturing to flip classrooms and physical classrooms to Online classes…the change has been phenomenal in the past few years.

4. How does education help one do well in their career?

When you earn a degree, you gain knowledge and skills to help you both in your career and life in general. It helps students to be fundamentally sound and gain expertise over their domain area.

Soft skills are required for overall personality development while critical thinking should be encouraged to develop the analytical mind.

5. Do you think teaching as a profession is viewed at par with corporate jobs?

It is important that every teacher considers herself/himself a professional. A professional teacher would take the time to prepare well and yield an intellectual exchange within their classroom to provide every student with proper education. A teaching job may be considered less demanding as compared to a corporate job in terms of working hours.

Undoubtedly the corporate world necessitates interactions with complex individuals and situations at the workplace, however, the teaching profession also confers the responsibility on the teaching fraternity to nurture the most complex young impressionable minds who are the future of a nation.

Teachers need to maintain a balanced attitude and approach to transform the most studious to most mischievous students into mature individuals. Hence this profession cannot be undermined as compared to any corporate job.
