Yuji Hirai - There Is Always a Future You Can See by Believing in It. Let's Work Hard Together! (Photographer)

Yuji Hirai

My passion for photography started when I met Instagram in 2016. I remember how excited I was to see the comments I received from all over the world when I posted my photos. This feeling hasn't changed. My father studied abroad in the U.S., so I had a strong desire to make friends with people from overseas since I was a child.

1. Tell us about your Background and Journey?

Hi I'm Yuji. When I was a student, I was doing research on holograms. At the time, I had nothing to do with photography, but I learned all about optics. After graduation, I worked as a mechanical designer.

My passion for photography started when I met Instagram in 2016. I remember how excited I was to see the comments I received from all over the world when I posted my photos. This feeling hasn't changed. My father studied abroad in the U.S., so I had a strong desire to make friends with people from overseas since I was a child.

I usually take pictures of scenery that symbolizes Japan. Shrines, temples, Japanese signboards, electric wires, etc. are full of the charm of Japan, so I post photos hoping that many people will be able to travel there soon. I used to offer a service to take photos of tourists visiting Japan, but I am not able to do so now. If anyone comes to Japan after reading this post, please let me take their photo!

2. How would you describe Street Photography?

The city is a landscape that we all see in our daily lives, but when I see it in a photograph, it can look like a completely different world to me. I think that's why I take street photography.

I like beautiful light, interesting signs, and landscapes where there is only one person in the middle of the street. I believe that the distance between me and my subject is what expresses who I am, because anyone can take pictures.

3. Which Subjects or Frames attracts you the most?

I like the back view of a man the most. I feel that a person's life is expressed in his back.

4. What are the challenges you face while planning a shoot?

It is an encounter with the weather and the people of the city. It is important for me to accept the scene as it is, because neither of these things can be changed by me.

5. How would you define a Perfect Shot?

It's a picture of the moment when the best light just happens to hit an attractive subject. I can only take a few such photos a year, but I look at them and imagine them every day in order to capture them.

6. Who is your favorite Photographer and Why?

Takashi Yasui - He taught me the charm of Instagram, lightroom and fujifilm. He is the photographer I respect the most.

7. What tips would you give to aspiring Photographers?

Don't forget to have fun. when you post your photos on social networking sites, you may be worried about the number of likes, but believe in the quality of your photos. There is always a future you can see by believing in it. Let's work hard together!

8. Which is your favorite Book and Why?

"POUPELLE OF CHIMNEY TOWN"

The movie is now being released in Japan, but I love the picture book based on it. The picture book was created by several creators over a period of four years, and the pictures and story are beautiful.
